Honest question: What's with translators and drama in general? It's always been there, even before the time of SJW hyper sensitivity and puritanism. As kids we knew about weirdos who might 'take you away' and only adults knew why they might want to, if you're that sensitive leave it at that. I believe in choice, so give a 'censored' patch and an 'unedited' patch if you're that much of a virtue signaler. Glad we kept the 'tranny' patch around, from what I've heard some trans people even use tranny as a term of endearment.

Think of it this way, they spend a lot of time developing a skill that is something that a majority of English native speakers will never bother to do. The skill that they developed allows them to gain attention from people with either no desire or no ability to gain that skill by translation of other people's works. The attention starts getting to their heads, even though there may be people more skilled than they are who are constantly reminding them, whether directly or indirectly, that they are only operating at a basic level and should be thankful for the attention they are getting for what real translation groups would view as mere practice. The combination of attention from mindless sycophants and seeing the actual professionals builds a sort of resentment and so to cope with the resentment they double down and pretend to be great, maybe even convincing themselves of the lie. From there it snowballs into the autistic shitfits you always see: manga and anime fan translators restricting their work to their sites, adding ads, getting pissy when someone else picks up the series, or video game fan translators insisting they know better than everyone else and can do no wrong, also tending to start getting greedy and wanting donations, Patrionbux, ad revenue, or being paid just to view/download the translation despite the fact that they have no legal rights to be making money off the work they translated in the first place leaving their demands in a shaky legal area.
tl:dr
The attention makes them feel important when they're not

It's not a subseries as much as it is a single good PS1 game with an awful GBA port. People shit on it mostly because of that port, and because this weird cool/serious spinoff era (both this and the PS2 game) is the start of the death of the series. But judged by its own merits, PS1 Shin Sedai Shuumei is a great single player playthrough. Good stage design, good boss fights, good soundtrack, lots of upgrades to explore for. It's weird that it doesn't have co-op, as the previous game is pretty similar and has it.

EVERY fat person is transgendered. If a person is born as male or female and later becomes fat, then that person has changed gender, from male or female to fat.

There is no gender reassignment surgery that alters the body as much as becoming overweight due to overeating does. Also I haven't played it, but it seems MNSG for Game Boy receives a lot of hate, not sure if it's actually a bad game, or just one of the weakest Goemon games. From screenshots it looks like a regular zelda style goemon, maybe it's very simplistic, but not sure if outright bad. Should play it some time.
Shin Sedai and PS2 Goemon are OK but really lack the soul of the series.

Other way around. It's more nuanced.

HG101:

has tons of skeletons (abuser, cheater, "problematic speech", genuine racism/homophobia)
is a hackjob who uses others' articles on his site, which he edits with poorly sourced wikipedia.jp info and "his" takes
to protect himself, rebranded his website in 2014 as a "radical feminist" blog (but also drank kool-aid)
is a member of neogaf/resetera, his forum even has same topics but more of a hellscape somehow

re: fantranslations, tried to start a #metoo against Tomato (Bahamut Lagoon) for badmouthing Yoyo (heroine who cucks protagonist) in a personal blog, "exported a misogynist controversy",
no one gave a fuck

re: goemon, complained about manjis in goemon 3 (might cause me problems with customs!), said he's aware it's a problematic series and of the manga reprints because of the tranny shit.
not content to just fish for content here to steal for his site or resetera, constantly starting shit about series on /vr/ (muh racism in goemon 4, manjis in Goemon 3 etc)

DDS:

Followed J. Petterson, never liked posts or posted anything not romhacking related.
In 2018/9 resetera was involved in getting Zynk Oxyde (top 2nd contributor in RHDN) banned because he didn't approve a tranny hack FAST ENOUGH because he thought it might be political and a false positive (like RHDN had before, with a transphobic "LGBT Pacman" romhack)

DDS changed twitter bio to "resetera is cancer" and put a blocklist to avoid interacting with resetera's official twitter's followers.
THAT was the incident that started all of this.

>> No.6848762

>>6848750
ResetEra posted about hack but discussion shifted to how they are blocked by DDS.
Something they found unforgivable.
HG101 decided that "'resetera is cancer' is an alt-right dogwhistle/meme"
Told resetera all right winger romhackers inject their politics in translations (cited Wildbill) and that DDS probably did the same
They debated which angle of attack to use (from the manji in the title screen and implications DDS is a nazi for not removing it, to DDS following J. Petterson) and finally went for the tranny NPC.
When DDS just ignored it, they attacked the translator to punish DDS.
One of the asshole scene traitors (cj_iwakura) helped them "negociate" with Tom, but just to turn up the pressure on him.
Some of the moderators on RHDN were complicit (rejecting all other DDS submissions until he "willingly" changes the work and then does more and more changes)
and they mentioned later they were caught in DDS' blocklist... only ever blocking resetera followers. hmmm...

As for WHAT IS resetera/neogaf, it's a harassment forum.
Has pedo admins
Covers for criminals
Jerk off to dox family pics
Drove at least 2 people to suicide

Caused a lot of localization cuts.
Tried to influence the fan translation scene. One went to the Great Ace Attorney translation team: "Hi I'm (shitstain) from neogaf and we're taking over localization editing duties for this project." to force Anglicized names and non-problematic story

DDS is fully within his rights to call it "cancer".
Of course HG101 can't say THIS is what he stands for, so it's "dogwhistles" or a WORD that triggered trannies, not the main character TRANNY Bismaru who appears not even 30 seconds into the introduction scene, with a very prominent female benis in the Impact fight.
Goemon 3 is not safe for trannies. There's nothing DDS could do about that. Even if that line wasn't there, the mere fact he's localizing a "problematic" game would be enough for HG101.

Today is a good day indeed.
Best way to answer HG101 is to rub in his face that all of the Goemon translations that were cancelled because of his gatekeeper clout chasing with his resetrannies will continue whether he likes it or not.
The romhacking community was too kind and was manipulated by a corrupt RHDN moderation into slowly accepting rot and isolated deplatforming events, but what HG101 inflicted on DDS and Tom (which rival Aeon Genesis in output, and may have already outpaced him) was nothing more than a vaccine to make the community stick stronger and reject their sleazy attempts to convince individual members to not associate anymore with "unpersoned" individuals like DDS/Tom/MrRichard/Zynk.

Fuck Hardcore Gaming 101, ResetEra (formerly neogaf, you can't spell neonazi without the neo and they surely play the act), Romhacking.net, SNESCentral, TinyCartridge, TCRF, cj_iwakura and everyone complicit in this shitshow. Have fun imposing your Neo Comics Code Authority elsewhere.
And long live a healthy romhacking scene outside their influence and without their divisive gatekeeping nonsense that will carry on with or without them.

Nah, he's a resetera member, and they sent him to convince him to obey their demands (and romhack it himself immediately, despite being no romhacker) but sugarcoat it more. He then reported back to resetera the details of his "bizarre conversation with Tom". That was the signal for others to flood Tom with less "kind" direct messages. He was also helping providing them with timely updates when Tom closed or reopened his account.

He doesn't seem to value translation authenticity, like at all. Tom's insistence on that part during their convo was perceived by him as something irrational. (as an aside, cj_iwakura is working on a Persona 2 Eternal Punishment fan translation patch stuck in development hell because... "editing". Might end up much like the Zero no Kiseki Crossbell Project edit - if you're interested in that Persona project, read his opinions about THAT project to get an idea what to expect.)

To his credit, I'll give it to him that he had enough human decency left to be horrified by HG101's acts to call him out even half-heartedly on their forum, and then retired himself from the situation (aside from a few times where he felt entitled to have more audiences with Tom)

Imo it's just like when some vidya employee is getting cancelled and Kotaku sends to the target an actor playing the kindly reporter to get him to open up and explain his side of the story, then pick the best exploitable quotes for a character assassination hitpiece article two days later. Sleazy, manipulative, and hideous in this context when the target is an emotional wreck at that point in time and you just want to optimize the harassment further.

It actually has unique level design. Just re-uses some things from older games like the mouse bike in Goemon 2 and some enemies from the past show up again (with different, new attacks). Basically takes ideas from the SNES games and re-packages them into a whole new experience, with music ripped from the N64 games.

There's apparently a (2deep4me) method, but I was actually thinking of Pastebin alternatives that more securely protect your pastes, such as Cryptobin. You can also use normal Pastebin, as that should do the job just fine, but I thought you'd prefer something more secure.

Which one? There was one April Fools article about FF6 as "kusoge of the month" which he said wanted to bait reactions and own the gamerz by insulting their sacred cows because it's subversive and hip and toxic masses always need a beating from time to time, "ironically" of course but then he was so high on his own farts he started picking fights with his friends whom he wanted to watch the baited gamerz get offended at his article.
I could see why, no one actually gave a fuck and the bloodlust had to go somewhere, and boy was that mildly entertaining to watch. But goddamn. The faggot is clearly unhinged and wants to create an outlet for his rage no matter the method. No wonder he gravitated to ResetEra/NeoGAF.

Konami Osaka made all the Goemon games for the SNES, N64 and DS.
And then you have Konami Nagoya, who made CV Legends, GB MNSG and Kuru Nara Koi.

Not that is applies to this situation, since a version with a new line was released anyway. The translator was never unreasonable about discussing it.

Stop using trannies as an excuse, resetera faggot.

The discussion was always squarely about the games, their translation projects, and the immediate factors preventing the release of these projects - that is a specific forum, a specific individual, and a satellite network of "retrogaming community" gatekeepers signal boosting the coordinated message to cancel those projects and get the team disbanded along with anyone who supports them or shows interest in the series.

Tom translated Last Bible 3 and Tengai Makyou Zero with more "trigger worthy" subject matters. It's not his translation for this rather tame example that ruined your "goemon fandom utopia". The new ingredient here is RESETERA.

It's neither trannies nor >>6859275 "blockchain nazis". Frank Cifaldi, a bona fide SJW, outright said cancel culture is good but this is one of the few incidents where it's bad and horrible, that it's "harassment", and that it's "disgusting". The would-be-offended trannies were sending words of support to Tom.
This isn't anyone's war, but HG101 and ResetEra's petty war against a programmer that said their FORUM (and only that) "is cancer". It's on you. Stop dragging others into it.

As for your weird "Make Goemon Great Again" and longing for the "good old days" ruined by evil DDS and Tom, your entryism is showing.

If anything the grainy translated videos of Goemon 3 before Tom's patch were full of assumptions about Bismal's trannyhood (even Ebi's, because it's an EOP posing as a translator. He renders the small っ as "TSU" ffs) and discussions whether Goemon is a cuck for putting up with Omitsu's constant NTR instead of Yae (discussions also happening in the Japanese fandom)
Out of all series, you picked the one where he literally yells FAGGOT at the first boss fight. In Dynamites the final boss tries to rape him. One of its manga so offensive it wasn't reprinted.

Amazing post, anon. Some minor additions.

>KCE Osaka
Also did Tokimeki Memorial 1, and worked on lots of sports games and the Power Pro series until 9 (and it's a series that has even more off-color humor than Goemon. Certainly explains the sports theming) - they tried to start new chibi sport franchises (J-League Soccer) and localized versions using... Mickey Mouse?
One hell of a pedigree.

I remember some Japanese fans mourning KCE Osaka specifically. Really seems like after its 2001/2003 closure Konami as a whole was never the same creatively speaking (but maybe that's a bigger trajectory?)

I could've sworn Dracula X was a Nagoya effort?
IGA notoriously hated Nagoya. After two failed CV on the Gameboy, he'd then release Symphony of the Night on PS1 and then they'd port it horribly to the Saturn adding tons of palette swaps and pointless corridors AND a third Gameboy title equally horrible that pretends to be the origin story of all of the Castlevania series, has Alucard somehow because he's hip, and is a slash fanfiction how the entire Belmont clan is born out of wedlock from the union of Dracula's son and a random girl who inherited a "magical" whip. She's the "first female protagonist" too, because IGA's Maria doesn't count (and was even removed from SNES Dracula X)

Can't say I blame him. IGA still did the CoTM team dirty though.

>KCE Tokyo
I knew it, some of the castles layout in Akokingu really stood out for their good design.
Are they involved in Gegege Kitarou or Kuro-Chan? I often see them compared to CV.

>Goemon Oedo Daikaiten (with Now Production)
The copy-paste game?
Explains why Shin Sedai GBA is just copypasted straight games.

>GBA TMNT

To be fair Kuru Nara Koi is good as a tech demo, but artistically and gameplay speaking, it's unsalvagable.

seeing they had no access to him, they DOXED HIM and got "friends" to call him in real life, in person, to insult him and cut ties with him, because that's what he needed then (said "friends" regretted it later after they saw the full contex)

Tom retired for 6 months, no new Goemon translations

>that it's kind of needlessly insulting
It's in the original text so it needs to be conveyed in a translation whose goal is to be as authentic and complete as possible.
This controversy shows it's NEEDED even more because otherwise, other games with heavier themes will never be translated, not even by fans who are supposed to be able to take risks companies won't.

Moreover, it's a demographic with the full support of the mainstream media and corporate world. If you're arguing it's that demographic and not just resetera, that makes it look even worse.
It's a mob of protected sacred cows against ONE translator attacking him for daring to touch a banned work that couldn't have been released today because of those sacred cows hold on the media and art landscape. Only Goemon 4 was taken down, and not Soreyuke Ebisumaru (a puzzle game) and Goemon 1 (widely known at this point)
The removal after that conversation was abnormal, the submission history and the GAME's page were deleted (no one would be able to submit another Goemon 4 translation), Pennywise and other moderators on discord noticed and said as much, and then Pennywise threw his weight around to get it approved and ensure it's maintained.

All I can find definitively is Nagoya developed the first GBC Kuro-chan. The PSX and second GBC Kuro-chan, along with the three GnK games from 2003, just say "Konami" -- no hint of KCET's involvement.
>While you listed it under Osaka, it shares key level designers and directors with SoTN.
Turns out it was actually by Hudson Soft, though had an ex-Konami game designer who programmed Hi no Tori, Metamorphic Force and the original TMNT Arcade, and he designed Ninja Five-O while at Hudson.

I don't care if you think you're funny being an edgelord is for 12 year olds and reading retarded right wing propaganda so you can lie in your bubbles of confirmation bias is just for people who cognitively struggle with being human. Best way to make a lot of money fast is the high-low game. Grind until you get at least full sandals and 2 riceballs in the first level, Oedo, and then you can max everything else out in level 2, Shikoku. There are secret passages in the first action stage (walk off a platform and push the monument) and in the towns-area in Shikoku (hit the door on the left of the Hot Springs building). In both cases, MAKE SURE you have at least 3 pairs of sandals (buy more than that) so that you can jump over all the rocks and get the Golden Cat (health upgrade). In the SRAM hack version (featured in the default download links at the top), you can save each time and max out your health, this way. When you get to level 3, Awaji (Mechanical Island), make sure to get as much money as possible from the high low minigame (you can bet up to 3000 ryo each time; SAVING after each win is advised). You'll need the money so that you can buy as many extra lives in level 4, Yamato, and so that you can restock for the dungeon in that area.

HG101 articles are mainly sourced from japanese wikipedia or fan translation communities.
NightWolfe sometimes sounds like a crazy man who obsesses over a vendetta (eternally salty over Xseed hiring for some Ys fan localization gone official a translator but not him - the programmer), but he's THE go-to man for all PC Engine translations.

Np anon-san. The tiger summon, right? I think it's a damage sponge and kamikazes enemies. I think it, like many things in this game (such as some of the more pointless minigames that cannot earn you money except "hypothetically"), is intended to be an early SNES animation showcase for Konami. I think most if not all of the special techniques are a waste of coin, especially after you've seen them once each.

I get it it makes it more exciting to rise the stakes by having to work for the upgrades and lose them if you fuck it up, and that's cool for a first playthrough, but it's not a fun thing to do each time you play the game. Repeating gamble minigames and resetting the game until you get what you want is not time well spent.

It's a shame he loses all his i-frames if he gets hit in the air. Makes it really hard to stomp on things with more than 1 HP or dodge certain air attacks when his health just drains like its nothing. Overall, he's more useful than I thought.

Before you hate on him that he's fishing for attention here, it's actually a good thing™ because that series is even more "problematic" than Goemon. Yeah it's actually a unique kind of game. While Goemon uses the x and y axis for gameplay in towns, it goes to traditional side-scrolling in actual levels. Animaniacs is fully x and y axis and they built platforming around it, and it works.

Oh, no. In the fantasy world in particular, and any places with pits and floating platforms that require finer control, it's hard to gauge the player's depth.
It would benefit tremendously from a 3DS/VR version that adds a stereoscopic 3D depth effect to the player and the most important platformers.

Pretty neat experimentation for a licensed game though. I'll add that I prefer the Genesis version for the above reason solely (otherwise SNES version beats it on sheer variety, sprite animation is a tie)

You can compare the final boss fights for Goemon 3 and Tiny Toon Adventures on the SNES. You'd be surprised.

>>6882759
>Oh, no. In the fantasy world in particular, and any places with pits and floating platforms that require finer control, it's hard to gauge the player's depth.
Nah I had no problem at all. This is because the game actually lets you change direction while you're in mid-air, so you can re-position yourself if you're not in the right plane. Can take some little time to get used to it, but it really works. If they didn't allow movement mid-air, then yeah it would have been bad.
Tip: watch the character's shadow, it helps you giving you a visual cue on which plane you are.
Genesis Animaniacs is fun but pretty slow-paced and more centered around puzzles. The SNES one is more action-focused, and again, it had people from the Goemon team working on it.

Probably because no proper Impact fights (they're just crappy random mini-games) and the final world is just a rehash of past level designs.

No Goemons for now.
Still ecstatic he opened a new website, and the team still going strong.
If Tom were to archive his old collaborations with DDS (at least 10 games) there, that would be so neat.

Goemon games don't have their own page set up yet, but they're listed. Click on "SNES Translations"

I could've sworn that page wasn't there yet.

Wow, so it's getting the Goemon and SMT treatment too? Oh joy.

First one though requires nothing short of a restoration patch.
The game had very shitty graphics and unpolished gameplay and level design in the Japanese version, and the American version is basically a remake that overhauls everything. BUT! Much of the updated content was removed or never finished before the game went gold, either due to time, cartridge limitations, or censorship. Some of this work is still in a recently discovered localization prototype.

The ideal version of the game would be a restoration of the American version, with any lost content (level layouts, text) ported back from the US Prototype, or the Japanese version.
The Magic of Sheherazade, also same developers, deserves a similar treatment.

And if the previous debacle taught everyone anything... it's that archival of past versions of the same romhack, much like what is standard for software change logs and git history, is very important. It would be nice to see this idea applied somewhere, though with DDS' website in its current state it would be unfair to burden him with such expectations.

By the by, Pennywise is collaborating with Tom for an overhaul of the older translation of Goemon 2 for the NES. Revised translations, translated signs, a new title screen in the same style as the SNES translations (NOT the official localizations)...
Those who thought there was bad blood with them over Pennywise helping maintain the SNES translations on RHDN might want to reconsider. The patch is expected to go live soon.

Goemon 2 on NES is still palatable for fans of the 16-bit games.
If you like it, also try Cowboy Kids (which is very much its own thing, and NOT "confirmed to be a Doki Doki Panic style reskin of Goemon 2" like implied by some persistent bogus information sourced from... HG101. Not his biggest sin against the series, but whatever.)

I wish they would translated the kusoge series Hiryuu no Ken, also from Culture Brain.
And of course all three Rushing Beat.

... There are better SNES games, anon. Why.
>Rushing Beat
First one was retranslated already (FlashPV was involved!)
Second one is very light on story and what's localized is somewhat close to the original, name changes and cut credits aside.
Only the third game actually needs a retranslation.

Also i hope they dive on the other Super Chinese games.

Yeah, I don't see what's wrong with Cowboy Kids at all. Some retardess jumped on it because muh wypipo cultural appropriation! false accusation attention points, but there's nothing wrong with clones, especially when the original series isn't even available in the region it's released in.

Yeah, you can use the code to make Brawl Brothers into Rushing Beat Ran. All that a translation patch would do is default the names to the japanese ones and make Bild white, maybe the final boss has a less memey two lines of dialog.
