That'd be nifty, actually. Different acceleration, max speed, and jumping ability could provide a small metagame, not to mention letting people play to their taste.
That'll be much later, though. Much, much later. Assuming we do go with it.

We have...something in mind.
It's not been started on yet, since we want to finish our maps first (Ijon wants me to work on CYRC03 so hard), and it won't be a permanent leaderboard, but it's still recording the victor's time against the others.

I'm just now getting into Doom, and I haven't been able to find all the secrets. I know how to find them, that's not what I'm asking, but some remain hidden.

Now, then. In my house I found a guidebook -- a physical strategy guide -- for the first Doom, probably owned by my stepfather. I checked and it has map layouts and all the secrets.

Go ahead and use it if you want. Some of the secrets are easy, and some are more nefarious. Secrets tend to make the game easier, not harder, so if you're learning the ropes it is quite handy to know that there is some combat armor here or that you can grab a berzerk pack there.

The alternative is unf-ing every wall there is, which won't always get you a secret (that one elevator in e1m1 is pretty devious and it was a long, long time before I found it, and it's not even a particularly rewarding secret)

I always make X "use" and o "strafe". Otherwise solid controls.

Select for Auto-map
Start to pause. Press select during pause and it brings up the advanced menu (sound options, configuration, password restart level and quit game)
While the game is regulary paused, you can cycle through your weapons so it goes straight to that one instead of waiting to cycle through them while playing. You're on chainsaw and want to get to the BFG9000 -- instead of having to go through pistol then shotgun then super shotgun then chaingun then rocket launcher then plasma rifle to get to BFG9000, while paused you just tap it to get to weapon 8 and unpause and it switches straight to it.

Map is automatically on follow mode. Hold X while in map mode and you can move around the map without moving yourself, while holding X L1 zooms out and R1 zooms in.

It is an early PlayStation game, so it does not support analogue and you have to use passwords to save. If I recall correctly, you can use the PlayStation mouse and keyboard to play it on but I could be wrong.

It's otherwise its own game, but is a nice addition. There is a PSX conversion for PC which keeps the PlayStation feel while being supported and playable with mouse and keyboard on the PC. I say that is the superior version. However, its atmosphere and slight changes make it its own game to me but it's also my favourite, next to vanilla of course.

Obviously no it's not better than the PC version, but it's worth a playthrough. Very unsettling, amazing skyboxes and the sounds are out of this world.

I am not sure about that, but I do know that in the TC the bloody-hook sprite is coded to replace the Arch-vile. I decided to change it back when I went to play through, forgot about it because the bloody-hook doesn't show up in many levels and was surprised that they were there. For example, in Monster Condo, the room was filled with them
However, I do know the reason why the Arch-vile was not coded into PlayStation DOOM; it was because the team "could not do it the justice it deserves", due to it having double the frames of any other monster.

Anyway, the circuitry was a complete pain in the ass to add, and an even bigger pain in the ass to modify. Even making it thinner is an exercise in masochism (and SLADE 3 has an annoying tendency to CRASH EVERY TIME YOU DO SOMETHING IT DOESN'T LIKE). Making them bump out would be much more of a pain in the ass. Maybe if I could use a better map editor (like GZDoom Builder), this would be easier.

I'm going to take another stab at making the circuits thinner, but if it's too painful to do, it's too painful to do. Making them concave is very definitely going to be too painful to do, not to mention would fuck up extremely badly with the walls. Doom is terrible with putting things on walls.

I'll be adding more circuitry farther in the path, so that'll probably end up being thinner. No way in hell it's going to be anything but flat, however. I have a sanity to preserve.

I had a lot to say but I accidentally closed the window and lost everything I was saying. But it boils down to your execution on your posts, and you execute full bullshit. You can play GZDOOM in software mode, put all the flags on which are for vanilla, no vertical mouse look and 5000 auto-aim. It emulates vanilla while not crushing everything into pixels, which I actually miss.
Point is, DOOM has come a long way. DOOM is still alive. There are some things I hate that others love, like Jumpmaze and Brutal DOOM.
There are .wads which are dedicated to replicate vanilla feel, there are .wads where you can play (Sythe and Hell Revealed) as if it were vanilla.
I ain't pro new features, but I ain't pro purist. I'm a humble middle, enjoying both new and old.

The other day I was in the /vr/ Scythe server and it was just me and this other dude. I was Duke Nukem and he was Lo Wang, we both killed a cacodemon and he just yelled out "Aha! You blocking with your head again!"
It was the best timed thing I saw for a while, another being the guy did a taunt for Lo Wang and I taunted as Duke and it was almost as if I were responding to him. I believe he insulted me and I said "Blow it out your ass"

If I am correct on this, enemies do not retaliate if they take less damage from another enemy. So you damaging it that much would mean it was trying to get you and the zombieman never did enough damage to make it turn its attention to you.
As observed from when I tried to get a demon to kill and imp, where it had to throw two fireballs at it before it tried to kill the imp. I had already shot it with the shotgun.

Can't record demoes worth shit with ZDoom. PRBoom+ is the best source port for recording videos. Plus, GLBoom+ is probably the best OpenGL Doom renderer out there - while it isn't the prettiest, it can run nuts.wad at 60 frames per second (and it's usually the same for nuts3.wad).
