- Talk about your collecting and scalping experiences
- Have any opinions on collecting retro games or the state of retro scalping today?
Gamecube games seem to be IN at the moment so the prices for those games are way up. Anyone think they will ever come down?

>>6835079
Yes but GCN games are free and can be played on a hacked Wii with little effort. Only retards will bitch about pricing when their community is the reason prices are so high to begin with.

>> No.6835125

I own 204 Gamecube games
I bought the large majority of them from 2010-2014 at garage sales for $2-$10 each
I'm not selling any of them
I hate myself

Why do you hate yourself?

Collecting today is a pain in the ass, especially because of cuckvid shutting down access to places like the swap meet where prospects for deals are higher. Nearly all main consoles except shit like intellivision which nobody fucking cares about are high up there in price. Nintendo shit, forget about it. If I had to start again I'd just get like 5 games per system max and probably only like 5 consoles. Shit's too expensive now and most flea markets are bone dry.

>>6835142
Intellivision is cool though

Also, a scalping story. Dude in my area was selling an snes with 5 good to okay games and all the fixins for 20 burgers. Some insufferable faggot reseller buys it within the hour and puts it back on the market, on the same exact app (offerup) for 120 or so. Worst I've seen and so shameless.

>> No.6835148

>>6835146
I agree but most games are better on atari or coleco and those controllers suck. I will always have a soft spot for intelly Popeye though

>> No.6835158

>>6835147
Yeah, that is definitely a shame and you hate to hear it. Hopefully nothing rare was there so that he would be unlikely to profit off of it.

>> No.6835192

>>6835158
Fortunately just basic DKC and All Stars among some others, good titles but nothing rare. Fuck that guy still.

How is that scalping?

If he waited a month before listing it at a hundred, would that be something else?

I wanted to scalp once but couldn't bring myself to it. Found Haunting Ground sealed at a thrift store for 17$.
The moment I came home I ripped it apart and played the shit out of it.

Genuine question what is actually considered "High in price" for retro consoles?

I hope all these scalpers have there house burn down or flood and there "*rare*" games are fucking gone its why I hate buying nintendo shit

i posted this a while ago and got a lot of hate, but ill post it again...

I buy stuff for really cheap (usually under half of current ebay sold prices), clean it up and test it, and then sell it for around 70% of current ebay sold price (30% under). I get to have a little play with some games\gear i wouldnt normally, i usually fix\repair gear thats faulty and give it all a good clean, and list it at what it is.

Theres a guy in my area that runs an 'online shop'. He is asking $50 for 50c jap gb games like Hamster, super poor condition covered in stickers. Anything i dont get to first, he snipes and lists at 2-3x ebay prices for some reason. I have no fucking idea who buys his shit, or if they even do, but fuck that guy

I found Section Z, Street Fighter II (Snes) and Body Harvest for 25eu on a flea market last week.
I think I did pretty good for today's standards.

The way you use the word "scalping" leads me to believe there's mostly empty space between your scalp and your neck.

Not really a scalp story, but probably is:
>be me
>13 or so
>mom sees game on craigslist garage sale ad
>mom calls
>they have a couple zelda games in the box
>zelda 1, lttp, and oot, I believe
>$40
>They are not sniped, so mom takes it
>3 boxed zeldas locked in
>hell yeah
>we go
>when we arrive the lady says some guy basically came early, threw money, and took the games
>heartbroken
>cool husband says i can pick from these other games
>mw2
>mfw

fogot to add that the lady selling told him they were sold

>> No.6835785

>>6835737
Ah yes the second worst kinds of sellers
the worst being the ones who will cancel an order after being offered more by someone else not to sell it to that other person but to relist at a much higher value

>> No.6835937

I bought a copy of Hellnight for £40 a few months ago, which is a super rare PAL exclusive PS1 game. I could sell it near Halloween for around £200, but on the other hand I want to keep it because it's in mint condition and i'm a coomlector.

I'm imagining some MJR-tier leftist sòyboy who immediately stuck them in a display case in his gay little retro store for 3 times the price. The woman is also a piece of shit for selling something twice.

>> No.6835993

This. I don't understand people who complain about prices when they are going out of their way to spend the money. Just get a hacked wii and call it a day

I got Chaos Fields JAP new.
I also got Journey to Silius pal new
Duck Hunt PAL A new
a few other rare games.
Where can I sell them without having to pay the ebay 10% tax? I'd rather sell them at a smaller price than paying the ebay jew if I can avoid it

I know this is outdated but one of the biggest problems I have with this hobby is FOMO.

I know it's out dated terminology but it communicates the way I feel a lot of the time. I guess it's just a state of capitalistic excess. I see games which I theoretically can accrue value on and want to play and there's this immense feeling of 'now or never'. This is, of course, presuming that the bubble never bursts.

I've been collecting in a dedicated way since 2012, I've had a lot of stuff I've passed on double in value. So game I decline to buy now is basically a decision to pay more later.

But I also know that game collecting needs to happen in moderation, like anything else.

Like I've definitely spent around 4000~ CAD on video games this year. I've found some great games, but it can start to feel like a money pit at times.

Anyone else know these weird feels? Sorry, long post.

>> No.6838278

Bought some games at a garage sale today and already sold one (not retro title) and made more nearly twice what I paid for all of them. I feel like a cunt but I'm poor so getting a little money here and there is nice. I should have left that game there for someone who would have liked to actually play it. Feeling guilty now

>> No.6838291

>>6838267
I struggle with this a lot. When I find uncommon games for a decent price I feel the need to grab them regardless if it's something I want to play right away. I got a bunch of Armored Core games this year but I have no idea when I'll play them

>> No.6838323

I was really into game hunting around 2010 to '15 or so but I haven't bothered much since then. I have pretty much milked all the local yardsale houses dry and the local stores and ebay are just too expensive now. I've got my self set up with enough modded consoles and everdrives that there's not much point anyway. I still buy new releases and I'll grab something retro if a good deal pops up.

>> No.6838578

I started collecting about this time last year so I just got comfortable paying $100 a game.
