I totaly cannot see you right there over me with a giant bulb of light behind you. when all he really wants to do is shot the fucking guy right in the balls. Like seriously imagine having to be Soldier and not only have to ignore the guy in plain fucking sight right in front of you, the favorable lighting barely concealing the giant 3 green lights he carries in his head, while he just sits there, ,load after load, until he perfected the take down. Not only having to tolerate the fucking audacity of hiding in plain fucking sight but his haughty attitude as everyone on here tells you that DANM THATS THE BEST STEALTH GAME EVER MADE. WHERE DID FISHER GO? IS HE A GHOST OR SOMETHING?? because they're not the ones who have to walk pass there and watch the fucking elephant in the room jump from 2m onto the ground making the biggest sound in the world and you have to act like you didnt noticed it. You trained your entire life in the best boot camps in russia and was survived war zones that were considered suicide missions your ENTIRE CAREER coming straight out of the boonies in Afeganistam. You've never even seen anything this fucking disgusting before, and now you swear you can taste the sweat that's breaking out on his fucking balls while he just hangs in there waiting for you to pass, smugly assured that you are oblivious to the king of stealth(for that is what he calls himself)" , the stealth he worked so hard breaking every single light bulb in the previous room's. And then the player reloads again, and you know you could kill the fucker before he even finishes climbing the wall but you sit there and endure, because you're fucking Professional. Imagine being unironically this fucking stupid. MGS2 did not predict a single fucking thing, what the fuck are you talking about? Secondly, MGS is more of a shooter than Splinter Cell ever was, even in its most action-heavy incarnations, it never moderately approached the amount of direct conflict and shooting that was in MGS, so what the fuck are you talking about there as well? It's also not philosophically sound since it goes off on tangents, drops entire plotpoints endlessly, forgets about characters, and makes no attempt to be even moderately realistic.

Also no idea where the fuck you got "pulpy source material" from Tom Clancy. Tom Clancy's books are hard military-thriller, and he predicted 9/11.

Gameplay lives up to the standards of its time and isn't a decade obsolete. AI doesn't instantly forget your existence just because they can't see you. Enemies in PC have sometimes some weird telepathy where they're kinda aware of where you are even if you're invisible. It gets more noticeable from the Battery level onwards. One example would be the Seoul level, where soldiers and tanks can shoot you even in cases where they shouldn't be aware of your presence. Do you remember the last part of that level, where you could save the lives of 2 US soldiers? in the PC version you need to use smoke grenades or the tank will shoot you. In the XBOX version that is not necessary, just remain in the darkness. There's also stuff like randomly getting an alarm even if you take down an enemy silently. The XBOX version is way much more balanced.

Believe me, I've done Ironman runs on both versions and the PC version always drives me mad with how random the AI can be, specially on Seoul and the Bathhouse.

Anybody that tells you Thief or Splinter Cell are super "realistic" stealth sims or something are trolling. They just have a more methodical pace; they aren't hard to cheese and they're hardly realistic. I like Splinter Cell and Metal Gear both, for the record.
>>6828562
The stealth is altogether at a slower pace, and doesn't revolve around line of sight so much as exploiting shadows to hide in. Sometimes this means shooting out lights, but often there are already shadows you can exploit and you can't always blow out lights without alerting guards. There's also a bit of a vertical element with being able to climb on stuff, but it's more of a tertiary mechanic and even in areas where you can do it it isn't necessarily worth bothering with. At the very least I would recommend Chaos Theory.

MGS3 felt like it lost some of that creativity and it was more like "just" another game.
Haven't played any other MG games yet.

I'll be the first. I love Deus Ex and System Shock 2 but always thought Thief was shit. Perhaps going back to play it after those refinements was a mistake.

>Yes because MGS's "sandboxes" that funnel from one point to another are so much freer.

They literally are. Especially when you compare it a game where you have zero freedom.

>canned animation

As opposed to what? Splinter Cell doesn't have canned animations? Fact is MGS games models and animations look far superior to Splinter Cell. Laughed my ass off recently at the opening scene in SC1. What a garbage fucking game!

Oil Rig, Kalinatek, Abattoir, last level.
>in b4 "you can stealth those!"
yes, in extremely clunky and unintuitive ways because the levels were designed to put you in combat situations

You can absolutely stealth those levels, and are actively encouraged to do so. Just because they're challenging does not mean that you are being "put into combat situations" since stealth is still the best way to complete them.
