What kind of gamer are you, /vr/?

>> No.6822313

Somewhere between 6th and 7th gen. Why isn't 7th gen allowed on /vr/? It makes no sense that some 2007 PC games are but 2005 Xbox 360 games aren't.

I think it's still too early for 7th gen to be allowed here. But to make the rules more consistent, PC cutoff could be brought down to 2006. At least then there won't be "why can I discuss Portal on PC but not Portal on PS3?"

It's a kinda old meme already, probably from /v/. The original said "hardcore gamer", "old school gamer", and "Ancient gamer", or something like that.

Did I say 2005 wasn't long time ago, dipshit? It was. But it was the starting point of 7th gen while the rules are set/updated based on the end date.

Just make it year based. At the very least we should be able to talk about every single game released in 2007 or earlier.

It really should be based entirely on date. Not only that, but the date should be updated every year. Like, in August 2021, they should allow 2008 games. Then the year after, they should allow 2009, etc..

Okay, think about this: Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain came out only 5 years ago and had PS3/X360 releases. What is the point of a retro board if people are allowed to post "STANDING" threads? And there are many other games like that.
Honestly, the only ways to determine the cutoff is either by the END mark of a gen or purely by year. And like I said, I much prefer the latter.

Because when they think about 7th gen, they think about actual retro days with Resistance: Fall of Man , Halo 3, etc. They don't realize the generation went on until TWO THOUSAND FUCKING FIFTEEN. Again, no Phantom Pain threads on my /vr/. That shit isn't retro for literally anyone.

The thing that bothers me the most about the rules is the inconsistency. When I say "pull back PC date to 2006", it's not because I'm a boomer who doesn't think 2007 wasn't retro. It's just my solution to the double standard currently applied to PC gamers. Why the fuck can they talk about Crysis when I can't talk about Heavenly Sword?

Either allow pre-2008 7th gen games, or pull back PC date by a year.

Oh shit! Now that I think about it, the sticky didn't even mention PC. The 2007 cutoff was mentioned for 6th gen games. They never made an official statement on PC that explicitly declared games like Crysis or Team Fortress 2 to be retro but they still have to keep those threads up because they fucked up.

We can't really talk about early 7th gen shit anywhere else, just do this. And it's not just PS360, how about PSP stuff like Logan Shadow?

>> No.6822673

>>6822607
The sticky never mentioned PC, other than the first phrase. PC games were already judged by the cutoff date. They could have narrowed things down by banning stuff that's only on PC and consoles of gen 6+, but in the end they probably just wanted to keep things simple and hope Crysis threads don't pop up so often.

Doesn't matter how long the generation lasted. What matters is core period. So years like 2005 and 06 are still okay. Same goes for 4th gen. Sure, SNK was still releasing games for Neo Geo well into the 2000s, but it was done by the mid-late '90s. By about '97 or '98 everyone else stopped making games for 4th gen consoles. The last game for Genesis, Frogger was in '97. And the last game for SNES was a Japanese exclusive released on 2000. By that period they barely had a game or two each year.

You could discuss 2000 PC game on old /vr/. Old /vr/ was platform-based rather than the current, nonsensical game-based, so you could discuss Deus Ex or even PC Halo because they both natively played on a pre-2000s platform: Windows 98.
