Why is it so fucking hard? Its tough even on lower difficulty settings.

Lightly Broiled ain't bad. The problem I have is finding where to go next late game, its so maze-like.

The way I hear it is the devs kept getting good at the game, and then they kept thinking "Man, this is too easy!" and adjusted accordingly.

>> No.6821331

>>6820584
It's meant to be played on Lightly Broiled normally, Well Done if you're experienced, and Extra Crispy in co-op (which includes infinite respawns). If you're getting your butt kicked on the easiest difficulty you should stop playing with a track ball.

Start playing it like a puzzle game... It will make sense and you will get better, you will acquire reflexes specific to this game
- stairs ? There is an enemy waiting for you
- door ? Enemies on the blind spot !
- a room ? Mb throw dynamite first ?
- water ? Totally throw dynamite first !

With time you will get the reasoning behind the maps and get better, the game will still kick your ass, but you will understand why and how !
Fucking love this game.

Man, NES games were hard as nails and all but nothing compares to those first fps'es
Tried playing Shadowrun a handful of times, it's absolutely impossible
I'll gladly 1cc ANY arcade shmup before I finish that motherfucking game

Blood came out in 1997, it's not one of the first FPSs at all, Wolfenstein 3D is the first one out the gate in 1992, which fits the typical formula, and it's a cakewalk on the easy difficulty setting.

Maybe you should stop trying to play it like Doom. Build engine games aren't supposed to be played mindless run 'n strafe 'n gun style.

>> No.6821694

>>6821387
The thing about retro FPS is that in most of them you have the freedom to save anytime you want. So theoretically anybody should be able to beat them if they save & retry enough. Of course it is better to just get good.

Wasn't there a bug that basically inverted the settings for difficulty levels, making Still Kicking play like Extra Crispy? I heard people talking about, I don't remember where.

i think the difficulties after lightly broiled only work if you know enemy placement and you're generally good at using dynamite

This. In Doom and even Quake, you can tank some damage. But in any Build game, be it Big 3 or else, player is a glass cannon. A very fast one, but even cultists or pig cops can tear you a new one.

Hitscanners. Once you figure out how to use the weapons, especially dynamite, the game gets a lot easier. I still, and will always, think Shadow Warrior is harder thanks to the shadow ninjas. Shadow ninjas are harder than any enemy in Blood or Duke3D.

>Hitscanners.
It's this, they're really accurate with a fast reaction time. Even one of the developers said he wished he had toned them down before release. It's not so bad if you go slow and make good use of the shotgun to stun them or throw dynamite around the corners but it's kind of boring that way. I know Fresh Supply has a lot of problems but being able to turn down their accuracy and aggression with the custom difficulty option makes the game more fun IMO.

I've never understood people recommending this, ducking only slows you down and makes you an easier target. Having played through Blood to completion, I never ducked unless it was to access a crawlspace or something.

Dude, BuildGDX has fine tuning too and it's WAY better (gibs aren't censored, AI isn't bugged, weapons work as intended, etc.). Don't ever recommend Fresh Shitpile, seriously.

Well, what the fuck do you want then? You don't want to duck to avoid fire, you don't want to throw dynamite around corners, what? do you just want the enemies to stand there and let you gun them down one by one?

>> No.6823115

>>6823071
It's just better to tone them down with custom settings. I've beaten the game before completely vanilla but they still have problems and they make the game less fun. Proper hitscanners should either give you a window to take cover or not hit you if you move full speed in one direction, but the ones in Blood have both insane accuracy and reaction times. Playing it like a cover shooter just kind of sucks and I think it's better to recommend that people fix it with custom settings instead of telling them to just deal with it.

I'm not saying you have to completely tone them down as much as possible, just enough so that you don't immediately lose half of your health if you accidentally turn a corner without slowly peeking it first. I've beaten the game vanilla before but the cultists really make it less fun and restrict what you can do too much. And if you're just basically abusing a minor exploit by doing something like crouching all the time which messes them up anyway you might as well tone them down and be able to play normally instead.
