If this is real I'm very excited. FF8 is my fav FF. I've spent hundreds and hundreds of hours on it, both in english and in my native tongue. I even did a no lvl up playthrough.

The amazing thing about it is that, untiel recently, I'd always find out new (more or less small) stuff either gameplay wise or regarding the story (hidden scenes, dialogues, etc) for each playthrough.

I originally played the game on PC. I feel terrible knowing my parents sold my big box release on a flea market for something like 2 dollars.

IIRC it worked perfectly, none of the slowdown it had on the Playstation. The audio might have suffered from the same midi-soundfont issue as FFVII though, I'm not entirely sure.

The coolest thing was that it came bundled with an PocketStation emulator that you could use with your savegames to unlock all the additional items and shit in the Chocobo World minigame.

I love time travel story. FF8's story is the most convuolated FF story out there PLUS it's about time travel, what's not to love?

Also it does have a more mature story indeed in the sense that instead of spitting the story at you (well, it does in two scenes but except from those), it's up to you to explore, talk to NPCs and stuff, and guess/figure out what's going on.

Also I love the game mechanics. Sure it can easily be broken but just like any FF once you know the game. The system and its level scaling worked perfectly on anybody's first playthrough unless you're retarded.
It's the most complicated and deepest game mechanic in the series, just like the story.

Bear in mind they said the same tripe about high resolutions when they re-released the FF7 PC version last year. It's going to be the same thing all over again. They're going to give it high resolution "support", but they're not going to re render anything properly. It'll just be optimized for today's hardware like FF7 before it. Everything's going to remain upscales of 320x240 textures like it was before.

Mark my words, this is nothing but a marketing buzzword. The original PC releases of FFVII also had higher resolution than the PS1 versions (just not 1080p or anything crazy like that), but all that resulted in was 3D models that were rendered at a higher resolution, while the backgrounds remained low-res as fuck and were merely upscaled to fit the higher resolution. The rerelease of FFVII for PC had this same issue. And it will be the case here as well.

So yeah, don't buy this expecting some amazing graphical facelift. You can easily get the same HD support with the original PC release using Aali's OpenGL driver, or emulating the PS1 version on PCSX-R with an OpenGL plugin (although you'll get some polygon jitter).
