I'm stuck on the snowy area after you go up the elevator and I can't progress. It's impossible to do anything without getting seen by an enemy. Stealth does jack shit and once you get seen you're toast. Melee is useless, choking is useless, any enemy you knock down gets back up 10 seconds later, and camera is terrible. You're constantly getting caught by offscreen enemies like it's Hotline Miami 2. How the fuck did people play this shit? Is there something I'm missing here or is this game just utter fucking bullshit?

>it turns off if you get caught
Why does that matter? You are suppose to radar to NOT get caught.

>you can't even move in first person so it makes you a sitting duck.
I mean, that's kind of the point. This is a game that is meant to be played slow and calculated. You're suppose to know when to utilize first person mode and when not to, you know what I mean? And believe it or not, PC version of the original actually let you move around in first person mode. But they took that shit out because it broke the balance of the game.

Also, you figured out the wall mechanics, right? When you press yourself against a wall, camera angle changes to show you a better view of your general area. That's mainly how you're suppose to peak around and spot enemies. The entire stealth aspect of this game revolves around that mechanic.

Yes it did. I'm not talking about the several hundred vr missions. The original game had a handful of VR training missions using the same assets that they later expanded into that extra disk as an option in the menu.
If you play that first and then start a new game, there's even extra dialogue where snake discusses the VR training he did on the submarine over to shadow moses.

Most of those "outdated" controls survived up until MGS: Peace Walker of 2010. They are not as outdated as you think.

First of all, it did. Games used to come with instruction manuals, remember? Yeah, it's a more boomer solution than just having in-game tutorials. But doesn't the change the fact that your claim "game doesn't explain the mechanics" is utterly wrong.

I tried shooting with the "socom" gun, but it seemed really inconsistent. Some shots seemed to produce blood and hurt the enemy while others bounced right off of them. And it took a shit ton of bullets to kill them.

kek, dude you're bad at the game. So spectacularly bad you've captured our attention. Calm down or abandon the thread if you don't want us helping while laughing at you.

>Dark Souls and Cuphead are better at teaching gameplay. MGS just dumps you straight into the deep end.
Walking past guards and spotlights at the right time doesn't really need tutorials. It's just basic timing? And you can manipulate it further with the wall tap.

If you really want more tutorials, then start calling people on the codec, they're more than happy to keep telling you how to do things. There's some wonky controls to get use to, but those opening areas are more than suitable for getting use to running --> crouch --> crawling.

You can also abuse the cardboard box if you want? If enemies don't see you moving in it, then they'll almost always ignore it.

>socom is inconsistent
I have no idea what you're seeing here. The aiming itself can kinda suck, but you shouldn't be shooting much anyways.

>"socom" gun
It's a real gun (the SOCOM being the US version), here's a replica that looks exactly like Snake's no?

Not gonna lie. My best friend is actually a pretty good gamer. We've played a lot of games together and against each other, and he can bring it pretty good. But he never managed to reach that elevator without setting off an alert. I never understood. Fucker could easily 100% games, beat Skullmonkeys without cheating, but couldn't do shit in MGS. Never could figure it out.

Few years later he got MGS2 and beat that, so I don't get it.

Not the same guy, but whenever I used the box and even when they don't see me moving, they'll just shoot me through it anyway for a laugh.

Just emulate. Works well for me. You need to uncheck "Store XFB copies to texture only" but other than that it just werks.

Bro I beat MGS1 blind in, like, 4 hours a few years ago in college. The only true bullshit spot is the elevator where you get stormed by enemies and have to run.
The game is not hard.

The fact that you have trouble playing a gamecube remake of what is already an easy PS1 game is proof enough you should really do the gene pool a favor and fucking kill yourself.

And all of you stop fucking giving him advice. Let OP be a dumb fuck who ignores when someone announces PRESS THE ACTION TO DO THING or whenever a cutscene blatantly shows him what to do.

Not until near the end of the game.

I'm going go with the fact you literally fucking go back into MGS1 during MGS4 that it prefers MGS1 over TS.

Though, god, could you imagine the butthurt (from me included) if that flashback sequence used TS graphics for some reason.

The cutscenes don't fucking tell you what buttons to press. The only one that did that is the one that explained how to drop down from the trap door. Aside from that nothing explained the controls or your abilities at all.

my brother stole it from a friend when it was new so don't need to i was just curious to see how much it went for. ebay was slightly better wish prices starting at $40 but the average was around $90-$150. but seriously how much do scalpers seriously think they can get from a game that most people don't like in the first place?

like hell, even ignoring the positives & negatives the PS1 version is still better by default because you could get it on the PSN for infinitely less that TTS.

To be fair, if you weren't such an angry sperg about this then I think people would have been a bit nicer to you. You may have enjoyed and beaten dark souls and cuphead but they are more recent releases, meaning there is a lot more hand holding. You can knock out/strangle most enemies without using guns, use the snow or knocking to lure them away from their patrols, and if you explore a little you might find some useful items. Remember the game isn't really designed for the zoomer mentality so you have to be patient

they don't, hence 'OH, IT'S JUST A BOX' voice clips. I don't think this changes with difficulty level either but I could be wrong.

I think in the later games they open the box if it's in the middle of their walking route.
