"Retro-futurism" just means "an idea of what the future will look like that's obviously colored by when it was made and now looks dated". No, it wasn't. "X console generations ago" makes much more sense. It clearly delineates the growth in hardware capabilities, presentation, development mindset, and etc. Console generations are the lines on which video game companies seriously change things about themselves, and therefore, games do.

I started coming here exclusively to find homebrew roms for retro systems and tl about games from the 80s-90s. Now every thread is some PS2 or GameCube shit. Objectively it does suck because it makes what I came here for that much harder.

On a side note I am kind of happy about GBA becoming retro as I see that as more of a portable snes than anything. And yes, I know that goes against what I said in my first paragraph.

Jason Rubin was mainly quite unhappy with the direction that Jak was taking.
He stated in an interview somewhere that when Jak 2 was in development, a lot of the kids that were brought in had a GTA kiddy that ragged on the game because it wasn't like it, and the other kids in the room hesitated to say they liked it and sided it with him, because they saw him as more "grown up" than them because he didn't like the style it evolved on from TPL.
I can't remember what else happened afterwards but that was one of the situations that stuck out from him the most. You might be able to find it if you dig around.
Ted Price wasn't as scathing but he was pretty irritated himself from what I remember, and the tone of his voice hinted at something more.
If it happened to such prominent developers in the games industry at the time, think about everywhere else.
