Which is a shame. Bioshock is one of my favourite games of all time (I was 17 when it came out, and I thought it was deep shit). But I still don't feel like it can qualify as "retro" just yet.

Lucky for you, it isn't retro. With a strict reading of the rules it shouldn't be allowed. BioShock uses Shader Model 3.0. It won't run on anything older than a GeForce 6 series (2004) or Radeon X1000 series (2005). Even a really good PC from 2003 won't be able to launch BioShock. It's literally not a game for "platforms launched in 2001 and earlier."

Maybe they should clarify how the rules apply to PC in the actual rules. If the PC is considered a single platform regardless of the age of the hardware, people are going to talk about a lot of Xbox 360 games like BioShock, even though the intention was just to allow 6th gen games.

Shader Model 2.0-3.0 (DirectX 9) and OpenGL 2.0 GPUs are not retro.
