You can't change a chip in a console, otherwise all the games wouldn't work. What happened was that Sega fucked up the audio mixing circuitry.

You can fix it with a mod. When you do, the Model 2 has the best sound out of all of the models.

The sad part about this game is that it was barely a blip on most gamers' radar when it was first released. There were a bunch of flashy genesis and snes games released around the same time in order to compete with the soon to be released/ported playstation.

From a design standpoint, it's interesting because it encourages you to use the items cleverly.

From a narrative standpoint, it works because it makes you feel mortal and makes sense that the more you damage the comic, the more you hurt yourself.

There's a lot of variation among Model 2 consoles. Some of them sound 95% as good as a Model 1, others sound WAY worse.
