It's really funny how mods could make new boards for strategy games, RPGs, and mobile games (which nobody asked for). But for 2000s games, they get shoved here, EVEN THOUGH PEOPLE HAVE ACTUALLY BEEN ASKING FOR A 2000S BOARD FOR YEARS.

Mention Riviera The Promised Land yet?

It has a Lunar Legends port too, and some FF tactics game.

It plays old gbc and gb games too. that's why this console is based. Metric fuckton of games. I can't even list them all so will just say Riviera. I'll be on my computer later to post the fav gba image again. Then gb and gbc list to add to it.

Tons of ff ports in general from snes. That one mario rpg tier game with luigi. Legacy of Goku games. Doom ports. Flight of the Falcon I liked though hard. A tomb raider. Sonic games. crash bandicoot, kingdom hearts. Pokemon of course. The Minish cap, cannot forget zelda games. But I won't bother to brainstorm beyond crystalis, oracle zeldas, grandia port for gbc, I'm just saying it's great. There was even a resident evil game for gbc, a quest rgp for color, but this is gba so oh well.
Golden sun one and two were favs. Aria of sorrow is best castlevania. Metroid fusion is great.

it's likely just that it's a popular 6th gen game, rather than any jab at the game itself
i wouldn't say they were bad looking games for the ps2, they just spent their resources in different ways
while individual models weren't the most detailed out there, it traded that off in exchange for a large draw distance, and a gigantic, seamlessly-loading (streamed) map
not many games had everything on one map where you could drive from one end to the other with no loading screens

I recently bought this one because I feel like I'm gonna fuck it up if I try modding one myself, lol.

Are those third party buttons and d-pads? How do they feel?

Not too found of IPS screens myself but considering the lack and price of AGS-101 screens these days it's the only sensible solution it seems.

Are there no missing row or lines of pixels on the sides when doing it on GBA btw? I've seen youtube videos of people putting new screens in GBC and it was missing several vertical and horizontal lines of pixels on the left and bottom sides, probably hidden by the black part of the screen lense.

Advance Wars is the ultimate teenage hood nostalgia for me

>poor young teenager
>put money in common with a friends, sell tons of games, in order to buy a GBA that we'd share between the 2 of us

>we end up playing Advance Wars all the time on it
>start playing in the bus to school
>continue playing at recess and lunch break
>continue playing on the bus back home
>repeat the next day

Some games could last several days, too. One time neither of us could win that one game that lasted several days and we ended up calling it a tie.

They are, all of them but the start/select buttons I think.
They all feel fine for the most part, except the d-pad itself. It feels a little bit sluggish and stiff to manipulate, if that makes sense. It's not a dealbreaker for me though, I kinda got used to it.

As for visual issues such as ghosting or screen tearing or what you mentioned, I haven't noticed any. There was some weird interlacing I spotted while playing Wario Land 4, but I'm 95% sure it was just part of the game, as I haven't noticed it at all for Metroid.

By the way, is there a reason why you are not particularly fond of IPS screens? just curious

I don't use the portables outdoor much so if I'm going to play on a screen like that, I might as well emulate.

As for the d pad, you can easily swap it for an og one if you want, you just need the right screwdriver and the process is extremely simple. If you don't have an OG one lying around to swap with, even a used one should be better than third party ones.

Because Land came first, and Ware has fuck all to do with Wario. The younger series survived longer, so the fans of the older series seethe and shit all over ware.

It was really short sighted to slap Wario's face on this mini game collection without planning to keep Wario Land alive. Like Imagine if Nintendo killed Zelda but kept making crossbow training games. or killed Donkey Kong Country but kept making Donkey Kong and Mario Vs Donkey Kong ( the lemmings clone, not the puzzle platformer. )

You can thank Wario Land Shake it, for bombing. A first party Nintendo character in the Mario family, on Nintendo's most successful console that literally everyone and their grandma owned. And it fucking maanged to bomb. I would blame the motion controls but then Zelda: Shitward Sword was way more offensive about it's motion controls, among other things, and it's apparantly popular enough to warrant an inevitable remaster.

That's the thing, the attach rates on the Wii were god awful, because it was a Wii Sports machine. Shake It itself is also a step back in many ways besides the unnecessary wagglan.

Anyway, I blame Sakurai for the Ware vs Land dichotomy, as the Ware series was just a fun spinoff until Smash Wario came along and ruined the character forever, so now Ware is wrongly blamed for Sakurai's misdeeds. Obviously Warefags have gotten fed up with Landfags blaming them for enjoying a pretty great series, until it also died thanks to Rhythm Tengoku and a steady decline in quality.

you can also play games passively "for shits n giggles" as you say and get nothing substantial out of it. if you're content with wasting time and distracting yourself from life it's your choice, but with a small change in perspective you can also gain something from it, be it understanding of a culture, a studio, a director and artists, different worldviews, game design concepts, programming, computer systems, animation... not to put the medium on a pedestal but if you're going to spend several hours playing the same game you might as well think critically about it. which you can't do if you trivialize it via walkthroughs/fast forwarding/patches.

Really good point anon. In many ways the DS software library was a continuation of the design philosophy of the classic retro console N64, as well as a continuation of the classic retro 2D styles that were made popular by the SNES and GBA. It even launched alongside a port of the retro classic 3D platformer Mario 64. Many people now recognise the DS as one of the greatest, if not the greatest retro handheld and I think intelligent and enlightening discussion of this retro classic would be very much welcomed on /vr/.

Those are the ones that come to mind with me without looking stuff up, though Riviera is odd. It's a wonderswan color remake.

Also they made Fantasy Star remakes for the gba.

For the record the FF1 remake and such improve the shitty nes game.

Game boy and game boy advance are tight as fuck. I feel like it's the only system besides the neo geo and the genesis where every game has a feel to it that says, "this is a game boy game." Every game on it had to have a super intentional design, meaning you got games that focused on pure gameplay while cutting out as much bullshit as possible. Even if you were playing a port of a console game it never felt like you were given bullshit. Devs had to take the concept and reinvent for the gb and gba

By the time the next gen of handhelds came it was gone. At that point you were just playing super scaled down console ports with shitty controls and shitty graphics. The unique handheld experience was gone

This translates to: "I got filtered and I'm super butthurt about it". Once you understand how to play it is easily one of the best SRPGs on the system. It isn't like other games where you can just grind and spam your most powerful spells to win, it requires actual thought from the player, which seriously infuriated the mindless jarpig fans.

Because it’s based on the Doom engine. Therefore the original speed, momentum, scale, and weapon behavior are all preserved. Doom 2 GBA may be more feature complete, but the whole game has a much different gameplay feel due to the use of a custom engine.

Climax didn't kill F-Zero, in fact the anime was a giant flop, so the spinoffs weren't gonna sell and weren't the worth to keep bringing over to USA
it was brainlet Miyamoto who "ran out of ideas" to push the franchise forward.

the sad part? GX did amazing on the sales according to its director.

I played the hell out of GP Legend on my gba, even dusted it off a few months ago and still had a lot of fun with it. I wish Climax had come to the states, I would have gotten it. I emulated it and thought it was pretty solid in it's own right.

>> No.6844717

I don't know what it is, maybe nostalgia, but the gba just feels so right. A quality enough library. Game files are just a few megs and often provide tens of hours of entertainment. A bit more refined than previous generations, so better quality of life features and an adaption to the system and portable nature.

I never played wing commander before and the graphics of this gba version are practically psx/n64 tier. Neat.

Though on medium I'm getting assraped at the start. Also the music is like nails on chalkboards, many at once. Might be the worst shit I've ever heard.

Still looks cool though. Flight of The Falcon is kind of pretty tier too but doesn't have that cool intro the wing has, and both are hard tier but at least you die slower in the falcon game.
