Comfy PS2 thread.
Discuss hardware and games
>The Microsoft Xbox, Nintendo GameCube, Nintendo Game Boy Advance, and Sony PlayStation 2 will now be considered "retro".

Not until Gen IX drops, friendo. I appreciate the enthusiasm tho.

Fat PS2s are preferable, so you can use an HDD and load games with OPL. Early slims can be modded to use HDDs, however.

Just use SMB if you're stuck with a slim. Compatibility is almost as good as HDD

I'd kind of like to get a slim eventually, just for the novelty of it, but I already have 3 fat PS2s (all 39001 models) so it's not a big priority.

Don't come across them too often around here, not for cheap anyway. One of them is my original one from 2002, and the other two I picked up over the years since they were less than $20.

buy a used ps2, if you look in the right places you hardly have to pay anything

Man, love the PS2 but why is it so fragile? It breaks so easily

How the fuck is it frail?
If you're running backups off a drive its up there with the SNES and MD in terms of reliability.

Who gives a fuck. OPL works with everything, even if a select few games need you to be using specific versions of it.

It's true, they finally took a massive nuclear shit on the board. This place is now a cesspool forever. Time to pick up our things and find somewhere new, was fun while it lasted though let's face it there was a lot of shitposting as well.

The problem with OS2 wasn’t the lasers themselves but the motor that switches between the CD & DVD laser. Hence why some PS2 can read PS1 and music CD but not PS2 and DVD or vice versa. Or if you were really unlucky it couldn’t read anything because it got stuck between the two lasers when it broke.
