Why is /vr/ the only board that seems to care about niche games? Niche game thread

Terrible controls but top comfy™ and actually doing shit can feel pretty satisfying.

Trying Carrier for this first time. I hate it, but now I gotta beat it.

Carrier is so bad, it’s like a worse deep fear or cold fear

Yeah, I thought it would be interesting because of the full 3d enviroment and Resident Evil 1 like setting, but it's so dull I can barely bear it.

Concerning retro games only SH and Clock Tower SNES compare well to RE. I want 6th gen retro so we can all discuss fatal frame

At least the Dreamcast has RE 2, 3 and CV, along with Alone In The Dark. God forbid if Carrier was the only survivor horror on the system

I love Blue Stinger, lmao. The controls are kind fucked but its an absolutely wacky, hilarious, and just charming game. Shit like that will never be released again.

Am I the only one who enjoyed carrier? I thought it was a neat little RE clone. The whole being able to switch from fixed camera to first person to see enemies was cute and the music reminded me of giallo film soundtrack.

They absolutely are. Your personal opinion is entirely meaningless, while studios live and die based on metacritic scores.

I think they held an important role in the industry back in the 90s as trusted sources of telling you whether or not a game was worth renting or buying. Today I definitely agree that the power they wield is wildly out of proportion with how many people are still basing purchasing decisions off of their articles, rather than someone's favorite streamer or youtuber whose tastes closely line up with their own.

>>6764608
From mainstream outlets, you're right that that's become the norm, but there's plenty of mid-sized youtubers that are very well-educated on the games they review. Joseph Anderson, Civvie 11, Mathewmatosis, RagnarRox, SsethTzeentach, The Salt Factory. They're all "critics", but they know their shit and produce quality content inside their respective niche.

Of course, but with the sheer amount of games released, there's no way anyone has the time to play them all and decide for themselves.
