It really is, although I'd say NES and Mega Drive are very close too. The holy trinity of video games, of all time.

The SNES's game design philosophy is like a hyper refined version of what was born on the NES. So yeah.

It's a great console and it is probably my personal favorite (if nostalgia and such are allowed to take part in the judgment). I don't know that it's really the best ever; it has an awfully slow CPU and I care way too much about simulation and procedural content generation to dismiss that easily. Think of how slow games like SimCity can be on this console! But it is a very good console.

Tricky proposition, 4th gen was the last good video game era, so yeah.

>> No.6759693

It has an overrepresentation of platformers the same way modern consoles have too many third person action Uncharted-like games. Lots of JRPGs too. Of course there are exceptions but its library isn't diverse enough to me for it to be considered the greatest. I prefer the sheer creativity of the NES and PS1, I really think the 16-bit era was weaker because they doubled down on better graphic versions of the most popular 8-bit titles and genres but were less experimental.

SNES is the console with the best library and I say that as someone who flings shit at the N64 in every fifth gen console war thread

very excellent and enough import titles to keep us in it today with the super everdrive
i love the graphics on this machine
although lately ive been on a pc engine kick and id say its way more underrated than the famicom

sega cd also

just get them all
that era of gaming was excellent
even my friends kids love that style of gameplay calling it "old school games"

the pickup and play
& the catering to the hardcore audience might never have that balance again

I think the 4th generation in general was the best gen for video games period. It took what the NES era did right and expanded on it.

>> No.6760646

>>6757550
The SNES has easily the most depth of any console library, I didn't grow up with one and most of the time I had a somewhat lukewarm attitude towards the system but once I started really digging into it's library it quickly became my favorite console. When exploring the libraries of other consoles I quickly got the impression that I was starting to really scrape the bottom of the barrel, but with the SNES I still find great games almost weekly.

SNES was the beginning of storyshit/style over substance (DKC, Zelda, MMX). Genesis didn't really do much of that shit.
SNES led into the next-gen's total dominance of style-over-substance/storyshit garbage from Nintendo and Sony. Fuck the SNES. Best console ever was NES.
