Is it a meme or should I fire it up?

More like you should set it on fire (your Saturn)

>Is it a meme
It's... unique.

a jrpg that's not a jrpg
a platformer that's not a platformer
a puzzle game that's not a puzzle game
a fighting game that's not a fighting game

If you can put up with the controls and at times frustrating gameplay(use savestates) it has a really unique setting and story but you have to do all 3 parallels to fully appreciate it. At first it might seems like you're just replaying the game 3 times but it's actually not like that at all.

Feel free to ask questions if you have them.

Try it. Personally I love the esthetic

Eh, it might have some surface level similarities but it's too different to be considered a real Zelda-like.

It's not a bad game.
First of all, look in the bottom left of your pic OP. You see that? YEAH! CLIMAX MOTHER FUCKER! If that isn't enough to get your bone up, give it a try knowing there are 5[?] different endings, all completely different from one another.

>knowing there are 5[?] different endings
I hate when people say this, it gives the impression that the only difference between parallels are alternate endings. Each parallel is a chapter of an overarching story and they are completely different all the way through, not just their endings.

It's full of a lot of frustrating platforming segments due to the isometric viewpoint but the multiple storylines and world it puts you in are interesting. I got my loose copy for $30 and it may be worth it at that price but not for the $60+ it often goes for.

>> No.6753816

it's unique but man you are going to hate that final level lol

I enjoyed my time with its world; Climax had a talent for making little self-contained places feel like they had a whole lived-in history and atmosphere (see: the island in Landstalker or the village in Alundra).

>> No.6753829

>>6753274
I feel landstalker and legend of oasis are better games all around, but the parallel storylines were entertaining enough for me to play all of it.

>> No.6753831

This game's minecart section was the first time ever I threw a controller so hard it broke. You should 100% emulate it and use savestates

>> No.6753867

Most people miss out on the fact that MAJOR SPOILERS the whole game is a loop of the neverending nightmares Garian has after being frozen in Carbonite for murdering the child

>> No.6754005

It's one of the Saturn's better games and the weird rotatable isometric quasi-3D graphics mixed with sprites are pretty damn good. I wish there had been more games like it back in the day. Regarding the gameplay, it's kind of a weird game, there are minimal platform elements, even more minimal fighting elements, miniscule RPG elements... it's got barely any actual gameplay and it's almost all story, but somehow in completely the opposite way to modern cutscene-driven blockbusters.
As for the story - this is one of those deeply mysterious and tantalising Jap games that always seems like it is hiding secrets no matter how much you play it
Some years ago an anon posted in a Dark Saviour thread that there were a series of Dark Savour radio plays (!!!) in Japan, I would dearly love for that anon to return

Without knowing about the parallel system I played this game for years on parallel 1 thinking that's all there is because I always wanted to collect all the items in the ship through the long path and I never gave the timer any thought.
One time, without any rush, I decided to do all the shortcuts for a change and by chance just happened to open the captain's door while the timer was still yellow. Once I saw Bilan standing right there, and having to fight him right away, it blew my fucking mind, it's one of the most poignant gaming memories from my childhood. And to then quickly realize I still had twice as much new content to go through... I had never been so overjoyed.

It's hard for me to distinguish how much it is nostalgia from how much it is legitimate quality, but I'm very fond of it to this day.

It's an rpg and actually the story in dark savior is pretty good. Really removed from generic anime fantasy land isekai bullshit.

>> No.6756608

I wish more games took a page from it when it comes to combat, yeah the actual system is janky as hell but what I really like is how they made battles infrequent but each encounter feels one of a kind and important rather than endless repeated filler constantly getting in the way.

Legit one of the better games on the Saturn.
Right up there with Dragon Force and Shining the Holy Ark.
I think it was done by the same team that did Landstalker which is why it has that same sorta movement.

Things I remember is the chocolate being cigarrete packs, wheelchair dude with the axe has a jason vorhees hockey mask, cheerleaders are playboy bunnies, fire mode kay has a more revealing dress and the undead kid looks less demonic, almost like a pallet swap of the kid from the port town.

>> No.6757925

i had more fun with this than landstalker. even prefered the music. i hate the constant combat in landstalker. here the combats are shit too but rare. I like the prison island setting and the weird dialogue. and the dungeons and puzzles are pretty good.

>> No.6759165

>>6757324
the whole theory about the game being the endless nightmares of garian after being sentenced is strongly implied so its more than likely what the devs intended.
with that said, as seductive as the idea of secret content may be, let's face it, parallel VI is just a completely unfounded stupid fan fiction rumor. it's like mew being under the truck.

I didn't really enjoy parallel 3/4 that much, felt extremely rushed in development which isnt that surprising since its not uncommon for jrpgs to have their second halves butchered by deadlines. The fact that they didnt even use the final battle theme for the fight against Carbon Garian like they did for Bilan and Gigadrizzit was anticlimatic af.
