It seems like adult fandom in the Nintendo sphere is mainly related to the fact that it's what they got when they were 6 years old on Christmas, while other systems and of course the computer arena were more what you chose yourself? Not saying it's bad that Nintendo's primary focus is on children, but it seems to be their core demographic.

nintendies for manchilds

>> No.6750878

Super Metroid has corpses in its title screen.
I'd say Nintendo is more fore all kind of public, except for the times they oursourced Interplay to make some edutainment with Mario.
Mario himself as a character gives me more of a Popeye vibe than, say, Mickey. But even Mickey games are pretty cool, the Sega ones for example.
When I think of actually children games, I think more of edutainment series, like that yellow fish one.
I guess stuff like Yoshi's series, Kirby or Pokemon (pikachu specifically) are "for kids" according to western standards, but in Japan they're more part of the "kawaii" culture, than children culture.
Yoshi's Story was way more popular in Japan than in the west, same with Kirby's Crystal Shards. Japanese in general are less prone to ditch a game just because it looks cute.

Yes. Fortunately for them nearly everyone under the age of 70 is a manchild.

I think all ages is more appropriate.
Thinking people only play certain type of games according to their ages is vastly incorrect. I was more interested in violent games when I was a kid than I do now, for instance. What age demographic do you think Mortal Kombat was most popular with?

Sort of, I would say all videogames skew towards younger audiences (over 50s dont seem to be interested in it) but yes sort of. Bear in mind also Nintendo is japanese of course and their sense of "kawaii" and what is cool may seem a bit naff and kiddy to us.

I dont know if its strictly kiddy or just "promoting good values"; Nintendo would not make a game like Manhunt or grand theft auto, for example. They are a privately listed (family-run, or used to be til recently) artisan games and toys maker, not a multimedia empire who turns out a whole load of different products looking to make big profits. They have a "nonviolent nonsexual values" policy and this comes across as kiddy in many titles.

>> No.6750918

Video games are for kids, ultimately. When I was a kid, most kids thought Nintendo was gay and just played whatever flavour of the month mature game was in. Probably Tomb Raider or whatever. Know how many functional adults I know who actually continue to play games as more than an occasional thing? None, only stunted fuck ups like me do that.
But all in all, Nintendo makes fun games, and mature games are generally tryhard shit for pubescents.

Not initially no, the NES and SNES had a very varied library of games for a myriad of demographics. However, this all changed with the release of the N64 and Nintendo has carried this stigma (in large part because of the vocal fanbase and the image they project) ever since and kind of settled with it.

Nigga, what? The N64 was when they let up their censorship on things like blood.

You just know this guy's first console was a N64 and he had Pokemon on the Game Boy, and decided this made him qualified to become a "games journalist" and is why every games media publication have been full of retard cuckfags the last decade.

You know it's true.

It's very subtle, but yes there are some red dots of blood in the sprites, and they are obviously people who were killed. They're not taking a nap.
This doesn't mean a kid can't play or watch this though, but it's certainly not "babby". It's just a sci-fi action series that a 10 year old kid or a 50 year old man can have fun with.
