Crystal Clear isn't the best way to play it, even if I'm somewhat fond of that game. It simply changes too much and is too different of an experience to call it a decent way to experience gen 2 again.

Can confirm that the Sacred Gold romhack is extremely based. The developer (Drayano60) is working on an updated version of sacredgold/soulsilver and is aiming for an October release. I'd wait until then to play it if you haven't already played the first one yet. pls no ban


/vr/ related, the vanilla GBC releases of GSC have pretty awful level scaling in Kanto and I always hated that. Romhacks, even for the GBC releases, aim to make the post-E4 at least a little bit more tolerable.

Voltorblfip is a much better alternative than slots since it's less based on luck. Once you "get it" you should be able to earn 1000 credits in 20 mins on average, something you'll never get in slots unless we're talking gen1 and you're lucky enough to find the "good" machine quick enough every time it changes.

You should play the original first.

The graphics are not the same, the musics are not the same, the gameplay can vary a lot, and a lot of things were added in HGSS.

Even if you like HGSS better you'll like it more after playing the original; and playing the original is important also because it was one of the gens with the most new mechanics added in that became a staple later on. It was one of the most innovative and influencial gen in that regard.

also know that if you don't care about catching them all, you'll be done with the original in 20-30hours. If you care about everything, maybe 100 hours? Some of the mons are annoying in catch in the original because they're supposed to be caught with special balls which are glitched and don't actually work.

If you do care about doing everything in HGSS you're in for hundreds of hours. Hell I have a 500hours savein HG (which doesn't count the time I spent in another games to trade in some mons) and despite having caught everything I still don't have a 100% save since I'm missing a gold medal at the Battle Factory.

Whilel you make a valid point, it is highly impractical to play an original cartridge of GSC because you will need to replace the watch battery most likely, you could get a clip-on, but you'll probably have to solder a new one. I've tried it with electric tape and soldering, however..
