Am I supposed to do a pitchfork start if I die, like in Doom?

Or is it not that kind of game, and I should just reload my save? I'm playing Lightly Broiled if it makes a difference.

Do whatever the fuck you want. It's completely identical to Doom in that regard. Disregarding how pointless a question that is, why would you even kill a thread to ask this in the first place? There's already an FPS general that explicitly includes and discusses Build-engine games.

Like it or not it's the most balanced difficulty in Blood, hitscanners don't immediately shoot you faster than any human brain can react.

>>6729930
It's designed to be that way, but as it has a save system, it's also designed so that you can avoid that if you wish to.

Certainly not on well done. You just never have enough ammo or weapons in most levels at the beginning of them to make it through.

Yes, you are supposed to save. Pitchfork starts become nearly impossible in some later maps, grab your guns and save when u need. Doom maps are designed to be beatable from pistol start but later FPS just use pistol start to punish you more than anything

I love this game but god damn it is way too hard to find some of the doors later in the game it pisses me the fuck off

>> No.6730990

retarded question but auto aim on or off? so far i've been playing with it off and it feels good. it's just that i've seen the argument that auto aim on is "the right way"

why do these pc shooters let us save anytime? i find it bad game design

Even Doom 2 i think largely abandoned the idea of a pistol start.

Imagine trying to do a pistol start on UV in Refueling Base.

And why didn't you save it? Yeah, fuck off.

It's fine to turn it off if you're also using vertical aiming, but if you only use horizontal aiming, you kind of need it.

brb, going to pistol start Refueling Base

If you're playing on a modern source port, it's probably better to use mouse look and no autoaim.

If you're playing through DOSBox, turn off vertical mouse look and use the original auto aim for maximum comfy. You can also disable the CD audio in DOSBox and listen to the classic MIDIs through Sound Blaster by editing Blood.cfg and changing MusicDevice from 7 to 6. You can disable autoaim in DOSBox by launching the game with the -noaim parameter. If you're gonna play in DOSBox I recommend the integer scaling fork of DOSBox ("DOSBox-pixel-perfect")

Forget pistol starts, that level could've given me an SSG and backpack and it still would've been a pain in the ass. Had to haul ass with the invincibility powerup, BFG my way through the room of hitscanners for the yellow key, and double back hoping that the Cyberdemon was facing the other way as I hit the exit button.

He killed me twice

If you're also using FS, be aware it's easier than DOS or the reversed ports simply because enemies seem to have tank hits much less and move differently.

Then again, it's a janky port overall.

This is the only retro shooter that has ever filtered me. Doom, Duke Nukem, Quake, Shadow Warrior are all not that hard on their hardest (no enemy re-spawning) difficulties. But Shadow Warrior on well done is fucking impossible. The accuracy and reaction time of the hit scanners is fucking ridiculous, it seems like you have to memorize every single enemy's placements just to have any chance of scraping by
