Anyone else feel as though they were born too late?

>> No.671769

I feel like I should have been born about 5 years earlier (born 1990) so I could of have more of an NES hayday. I mean I played the NES at my grandmas and SNES at my cousins but my first system was N64

>> No.671778

I was born a year after you and I don't feel that way. You make it sound like you didn't start playing video games until you were 16 or something.

NES was in its hayday late 80's earkly ninties tho

I feel that way with the SNES. I used to always be babysat in the summer every weekday and their son had an SNES and Genesis with tons of games. His room was also full of 90s posters for various grunge bands and such. I was always fascinated by that room. Even when I got my first game system (N64), I was still babysat for two summers after that and still fascinated by the SNES/Genesis.

Could have ended the babysitting earlier probably, but I had too much fun.

Do you mean 10 years too late? Your post makes no sense

What?
We were fucking infants late 80's-early 90's.

Yeah, I meant that. Sorry, I was thinking a mixture of "feel as though I was born 10 years too late" and "feel as though I should have been born 10 years too late"

Got them mixed up in the mind I suppose.

>> No.671828

But this IS the golden age of gaming. It has never been easier to get to play SNES or Genesis games and find people to talk about them.

This is the golden age for PLAYING games, but the '80s and '90s were the golden age in terms of quality games being made

You were born a full three years earlier, that makes a load of a difference. OP was six years old when PS1 and Saturn game out while you were nine.

For games, nah. '85 master race. Though I would have liked to have been born earlier for musical reasons

This, I can understand musicians saying they were born in the wrong time, but not gamers.

Well yeah, that's what matters, isn't it? Super Metroid might as well have fallen from the sky in 2008, it would still be a pretty good game.

I think we still got to experience a good piece of gaming history, but I do wish I could have experienced PC gaming in the 80s.

Why for musicians? The same logic for that post also follows through for music: you can listen to all the classics without having to wait.

You can't see some of the original bands perform anymore. And some of the older farts are far from their A-game.

Born in 1994, own tonnes(im talking boxes and boxes) of games from NES to PS3. Still enjoy the old ones way more then the new..

>> No.671963

I was born in 89 but lucky for me my grandfather owned an NES and Atari 2600 so I played those when I was younger. My family then bought a model 2 genesis probably in 1995 and a little bit before that my grand father bought an snes. I got into the genesis and snes at a late stage but was still able to experience a lot of great games. My neighborhood was also really small so most of my friends when I was younger were about 4 or 5 years older than me so they introduced me to great games at a young age. I feel perfectly happy with the year I was born and the experiences I've had with games, now I wish I could say the same about the music I grew up listening to.

Woah dude you were born at the right time. If you were just more interested in video games at a younger age and if your parents were slightly more wealthy your childhood could have been gaming heaven.

I was born in 93 and missed out everything Sega and Sony until just recently, because I was too absorbed in Nintendo. I totally wish that I owned a Dreamcast and Ps1.

>> No.672003

What. Dude, you were around during the Genesis, SNES, and PSX.

>> No.672008

Also born in '89. If you played games in your childhood, you were just fine. If you had older siblings or started REALLY early you were just fine.

If you go out and shop nowadays, you will still be just fine.

If you play what everybody conceives as popular, then you get DLC, always online, and the other hallmarks of what will be known the dark age of video gaming.
Then again, if you play games that are popular now, then you deserve every bad thing that comes with it, because you have low standards.

For every other aspect of your life though, you were born at the wrong time. vidya is fine though.

Enjoy never getting social security or a well-paying job out of college though!

>Enjoy never getting social security or a well-paying job out of college though!

This so much, do any of you born around 90 have a good job? I know I don't, I work construction and even though it pays well there is no real security and my 401k plan is pure shit. I'm going back into college but it still feels like its impossible to get ahead.

I never understand this sentiment. You live in an age with more resources than you could possibly need, and access to more games info than ever possible in the past. Hell, if you didn't have the internet the way you do now then you probably would have never even found out about those great old games in the first place, and with all of the means we now have to obtain, record, and preserve those games, it's easier than ever to access and play them.

I think you should be happy you live in an age where Dendy can't peddle 16 mario games and where Europe doesn't have to accept Probotector as an artist's original vision.

>> No.672059

Nope, I was born in 1986. I experienced the tail end of the NES era and the entire SNES era, which also allows me to better appreciate the NES games that came out before I was born and before I was cognizant.

Write your fucking representatives.

If we don't let them know how shitty its getting, then how are they going to do anything?

>> No.672095

My family was always behind the times on systems, we only had a SNES until 2001 (born in '94 by the way). I don't think I was born too late.

What I do regret, however, is not getting into certain genres until it was too late, like classic FPSs. I can't get used to the control scheme.

1991 here. My family was actually a bit slow to adopt consoles, and my father played games, so I experienced the proper 8-bit > 16-bit >64-bit >128-bit progression and have fond memories of each gen. Some of my earliest memories involve Duck Hunt and the bright orange NES Zapper and "cat Mario" in SMB3.

Feels good.

1995, i had a playstation growing up into pc, but i also got a N64 which had DK64, Bust-A-Move Arcade Eedition 2, Glover, diddy kong racing and 3 other games i dont remember the title on, i really liked the N64 as a kid (still do) but i felt like i REALLY missed out on these old games, i always loved nes games and we also had that when i was like 3 (super mario and a bootleg game), but it disappeared and found it couple of weeks ago

I was born in '83. I did lots of PC gaming (I think the first game I ever played was King's Quest. I pretty much learned how to read because of that game.) but wasn't able to start getting into console gaming until the 2000's due to poor family.

Born in '93. Had a PS1, PS2 and emulated SNES and GBA on the side. Got a Dreamcast this month, not quite having a blast yet because i'm just pirating the mediocre games i don't plan on buying while what i actually bought is in the mail, but Rez was insane. Some PC vidyan like prince of Persia, HoMM3, AoE and Doom 2.

Did not miss a single solitary shit, except maybe the fact i don't really like the Nintendo franchises everyone cherishes because they came slightly late and my childhood joy was properly filled by Spyro and the gang.

Get over it OP. You have the entirety of videogaming at literal four clicks away, so just play shit.
