Is there a front light solution, like a premium LED worm light, that isn't an internal one that fades the screen colors, or a house lamp, or the sun?

Not looking for a backlight mod, I want to keep it all original. Also for $50 the mod costs I could just buy a GBA SP or PSP and load it with roms.

If I go that route, I might as well just play them on the computer with emulator, or on a phone with those controller button case addons.

Shut up. You want to see the game ou're playing, or do you just want to be seen using the """period accurate hardware"""?

All other solutions short of backlight mods are trash anyway. Worm lights are shit. The magnifying lights are clunky shit. Either grin and bear it, get a backlight mod, or get a GBA SP with the backlight.

Honestly I just use my Gameboy Color in bed or at my reading corner if I'm not using it outside in the sun somewhere. You should probably just modify the space around your home if you don't want to use a worm light OP. Ensure that you are comfortable and not straining to use it in an ineffective way. LED modded light boy/knockoff works great. You don't even need the lens if you don't like it, just something to hold the LEDs in place away from the screen. It's much better than a worm light as you get light coming from both sides.

This, I can't tell if people being ironic or actually insane with the mental gymnastics they go through to stay "/vr pure". Like as if you still aren't playing /vr/ gameboy games if you play it on a GBA, the best way to play any GB game. That would be like finding out someone has been playing all of their PS1 games on a ps2 and then saying that they didn't really experience them properly because it doesn't count unless you boot it up on a ps1. The absurdity is just way out of hand.

A non-meme answer would be to backlight mod a GBC. That is the only non-shit way to play old games on a gameboy.

no. They developed it on a computer. Then they optimized it to run much more smoothly on a much weaker shittier system as it was the most popular system at the time or the system holder paid them to do so.
There was nothing artistic about it and it was always a compromise.

best option is to have desk lamp or overhead lamp with led bulb, then play it on the desk if you insist on original screen.

But the IPS screen mod is worth it(and its only 30 bucks on aliexpress, 33 with brand new housing), they are little tricky to install but 100% worth it and I like the gbc and gba form factor over gba sp or micro, they both are uncomfortable. fat DS has tiny buttons and is huge and uncomfortable, and ds lite has awful mushy buttons an DS'es only plays gba games anyway, and with any flashcards or softmods you might as well save your hands from cramps and buy psp anyway.

psp isn't bad option either actually, if you dont have real hardware and real carts of flashcard autism. theres also GB Boy Colour but it has extremely awful d-pad and the screen is in wrong aspect ratio and kinda looks ass, but its only 28 bucks brand new and has backlight screen.

>> No.6710708

The developers intention was to make the game to their best ability in accordance with the specifications of the hardware they were making the game for and to satisfy the contract of their publisher. If you were to ask an average developer about how they would feel about people trying to play their games, they would probably be happy for people to play it in any way they can, so that their games may continue to be enjoyed. I don't think any developer would wish for their game experience to be trapped forever after 20 years to the realm of scalpers and mentally ill hoarders.
