Cloud is by himself and completing a one man mission, but still everyone speaks to him like its the only thing they're doing or exist to do. They talk to him like a baby, and despite playing another character who has a personality so unlike you, you - the player - are being spoken to. Its really corny.

That's my main problem with it to be honest, take Vivi for example. In the early Final Fantasy games , you couldn't see a black mages face because of the limitations of the console. With your imagination, you'll obviously imagine that his face is just shrouded by his hat. But in FFIX, they just full on make his face a black orb shrouded thingy, like wtf is that??
