Does anyone remember some kind of reverse-engineered PC port of Super Metroid from the early-mid 2000's?

I'm not sure if a reverse engineered PC port is actually what it was since it was so long ago, but I recall it was abandoned pretty early on. It was mostly non-functional (the only rooms you could access were a few in Crateria and old Brinstar) and had a mostly non-functional level editor and also had its own forum dedicated to it.

Oh yeah, and Samus was green for some reason.

Anyone know what I'm talking about? I'd like to know what exactly the full story behind it is and what happened to it.

Do you have any more info on the forum or anything? I'm slightly curious.

Not retro. Could a mod nuke this before they actually find their little zoomieshit? Thanks.

We can discuss post-1999 ports of pre-1999 retro games on this board, jackass.

You're confusing this board with the stable you came from. This is /vr/, not /v/

I’m curious as well but I can’t find anything close to it. Maybe more informations ?

All I remember about the forum is that it was pretty much completely dead with the occasional "hey is this project still alive?" post every few years. I think the last time I came across it, there hadn't been any new posts for like five years or so. Also, I think there was a sticky that basically went "THIS PROJECT IS DEAD, STOP ASKING ABOUT IT"

I also seem to recall some people wanted to continue its development but the developer was a dick and refused to release the source code.

>>6701810

As I recall the name was some four letter acronym.

What I posted is all I can think of but maybe someone can ask more questions to jog my memory a bit

>four letter acronym
Do you mean an initialism like AM2R, or do you mean an actual acronym that spells a pronounceable word?

>> No.6702232

>>6702213

An initialism. Since it was Super Metroid I'd wager the first two letters were probably SM, kind of like in SMILE but as far as I'm aware the project had no relation to SMILE and I dunno if SMILE even existed at that point

>> No.6702268

Oh yeah, also: the port had some kind of anti-aliasing/filtering built in. I don't recall if it could be turned off or not.

FSMR (First Super Metroid Remake) ???

>>6702324

Nope, this was a straight 1-to-1 tile-for-tile port. All that was different was that the dev changed Samus' suit.

Wasn't it a Metroid 2 remake of some kind? I recall seeing something like that based in the game maker engine, it used Super Metroid sprites but massively expanded the frames.

>>6702510

That was Project SR388. This wasn't anything like that. It was literally a PC port of Super Metroid with no fancy stuff added.
