Why? What's wrong with wanting a mode where you can actually learn the mechanics of the game and learn some combos without continually getting your shit kicked in? Not everyone has an IRL practice buddy you know.

And have to mash through the victory screen and start the fight over again? Pretty tedious desu.
Or you could just, you know, knock them out of the ring/into the blast zone/etc. and have them respawn endlessly until you've got your shit down pat.
>man up and learn while you play it
Nothing to do with manning up, I just don't like being forced to learn in a mode where an AI that knows what it's doing automatically starts kicking my ass, which is more conducive to button mashing than actually learning combos and the timing involved.

In that case you're not even practicing to play other people lol !?! You literally need a training mode to prepare you to play the fucking computer? As if easy mode isn't easy enough that you're "continually getting your shit kicked in" and you ask why we're laughing at you?

that pro players, who are much more serious than I am, don't spend a shitton of time in practice mode?
>You literally need a training mode to prepare you to play the fucking computer?
Don't need it, I could do with versus mode if I really felt like it but only being able to hit them X amount of times before being forced to mash through the victory screens and restarting the match, wash rinse repeat, is much more tedious than simply ring out/blast zone/you both have infinite hp/etc. do it again.

Not sure what he meant by this, but I just want to git gud™. It's better to learn how to walk before you start to run, so it's annoying when fighting games don't give you that safe mode where you can build up your skills so you're ready for when shit gets real.

This is the best for immersion. The stick becomes an extension of your virtual spine. Only two digit IQ brainlets like to play with non-inverted controls because they can't comprehend anything besides "up means up and down means down."

Or, they like to play for more than 15 minutes without feeling like throwing up. The really drab color palette of most FPS games really doesn't help that either.

Also that control scheme only makes sense for flight simulators, as that is how IRL planes control.
And immersion? Lmao. Find me a /vr/ FPS with a story and world worth immersing yourself into.

I don't think they add anything worthwhile to the games outside of what >>6682619 mentioned, it's just a fucking control scheme, it doesn't make it harder or scarier or even more awkward, it's down to the level design and enemies

i'm curious, i know several people who look at me funny when joining a console shooter and the instant i try to move i pause the game and change it to inverted aiming
so what i want to know is, how weird is this? it can't be that uncommon since nearly all games have this option, even games with fuck all control options

I'm sorry but I played all mainline RE games (including CV), SH1-3, Galerians, Kuon (I have it physical), Fatal Frame 1-2, Dino Crisis 1-2 and probably more PS1/2 era survival horror games that I can't be arsed to mention. Controls and camera angles are the least of my problems (I like the latter, don't mind the former), just the perception around those.

>> No.6682719

can we all at least agree that Rareware's FPS controls where you move the reticle around the screen and it's constantly trying to recenter itself is the absolutely worst control scheme ever devised by a human for a videogame?

>> No.6682725

>>6682619
So why did Desert Strike and Micro Machines have them?

>> No.6682727

>>6682719
No it's the best, which is why Rare/Free Radical FPSs have been the only console ones I can play.

I tried to play Halo, after all the fanfare about it, and found the controls laughably bad.

Being able to hold R and move the sight relative to the screen is extremely useful. Plus, it was very precise and it only does the recentering thing when you go right to the edge, which presumably means you're trying to aim at something off screen (or near as), so panning is probably what you want.
