Did I get Daytona USA wrong all my life ? I remember it being super impressive for the time, but when I played it, it always felt incredibly stiff and not all that fun to control.
Sega Rally always felt just right to me.

I havent played daytona USA in a long time though, I'm basing that opinion on playing the saturn and pc versions a bit with my friends when I was younger, and the arcade version once as a kid.

Love sega rally arcade, and I also used to "practice" using the JP ps2 version.

I compare every rally/arcade racing game to it in terms of the excitement it produces within around 4 units.

This seems so silly to me. Racing games are like the only genre that's wholly improved by every technological step forward. Everything about the actual mechanics and graphics of a modern racing game accomplishes what retro ones tried to do but better. It's like posting a rotary phone and saying "There will never be a greater phone than this". What the device is trying to accomplish is so simple and utilitarian that it can obviously be objectively improved in many ways. Sure, it has kitsch value, but there's no reason to sperg out about it.

>PC hardware
No consumer PC could display as many polygons as a Saturn in 1994. Go home loser.

>> No.6673805

The Saturn's VDP1 was the basis for NVIDIA's first graphics processor, the NV1, which was one of the first 3D graphics accelerators on PC, released in 1995. Like the Saturn, it uses quad polygons and supports forward texture mapping with limited perspective correction, and several Saturn ports are available for it. However, the NV1 has a lower fillrate and rendering performance

The most powerful PC graphics card of 1995 was Yamaha's Tasmania 3D, which was based on triangle polygons. It had a higher fillrate and rendering throughput than the NV1, but less than the Saturn and PlayStation.

This. Cars aren’t allowed to be fun to drive in racing games anymore, now the driving physics is either understeer unless you skilfully use the brake to ensure you’re skilfully driving around every corner at 5mph (because that’s simulation apparently), or gripping like the car is on tracks even at 300mph.

It's not, it's legitamately the best way to play Daytona USA today. PS3 or Xbox360.

It's a fantastic remaster, i just wish M2 would release the equally good Virtual Racing remaster on the switch on other consoles.

>> No.6680785

The real answer is obviously Outrun.

Not only because you can live out the fantasy of owning a Ferrari which none of us ever will. But also that youre travelling the breadth of America with a fine fucking sexy blonde piece of ass probably giving you a handjob and sucking your dick the whole time, which again, none of us will ever experience. It's the perfect fantasy game and it's pretty fun to boot. Nice music too.
