now we all dream of finding surprise at dinosaur peak at a flea market for $2 but it'll never happen. All the non-retail suppliers are over run with Mario/duckhunt carts. Where am I supposed to get good games like super C for under $20?

>> No.666927

you dont. those days are long gone. most yard sales have been sucked up dry by resellers and if by some miracle you come across nes games at a garage sale, i sure hope you enjoy nes golf and ice hockey

>now we all dream of finding surprise at dinosaur peak at a flea market for $2 but it'll never happen

I'm more concerned about the Flea Market I went to yesterday. It had two video game booths. One had a Russian guy that was really friendly, but he was selling a NES for $400, Mario Bros/Duck Hunt for $80, and I heard him tell some kid that Chrono Trigger was $240 used, $4000 used, and he was giving him a deal.

The other had a regular guy that sold me Super Mario RPG for $40.

Nope. I said 3, not 4, and this wasn't an error.

They just had a shitton of NES carts for 4 bucks a pop, and I saw DW3 in there and nearly shit a brick. Hauled off about 12 of them for a total of 48 bucks, nearly the cost of DW alone.

Should've left more of them there, dunno WTF I was thinking buying shit like Ironsword and Strider, but oh well

>> No.667314

Never give up. Without garage sale and flea market hunting, I would never have found Panzer Dragoon Saga, Shantae, Pocky and Rocky 2, and more recently Demon's Crest. I've also had weeks where I found goddamn nothing after 30 sales and an SP with the battery missing at the flea market.

Never fucking give up.

OP, just keep looking.

Within a single month, I got a Sega Saturn for 35 bucks, Earthbound for 5 bucks, and Mega Man Legends 2 for 4 bucks, all at thrift stores and yardsales.

You just have to look.

I don't really see the point, honestly.
>30 markets
This wastes gas and time. I seldom overpaid, but I will admit I recently purchased Dragon Force for about $20 over its e-jew price (and also bought Earthbound a few months back, combined near $300)
The chances of me finding a market that carries either "half off" out of desperation or just dumbfound stupidity (this is literally ALL you are relying on, stupidity and/or desperation) let alone the area you're in actually having a physical copy. I just don't believe in it, maybe you'll find that one rare game you don't really want but would like to have for the sake of rarity, but the whole reason we "celebrate" the
>$3 FOR MINT EARTHBOUND IN BOX
is -because- of that rarity, its a mini-retro lotto, and will only get worse as collectors increase and resellers become more savy.

>> No.667397

>>666891
>but it'll never happen.

Not with that attitude. You have to go out there and find it. Sure I've never found a copy, but they are out there.

>> No.667440

>>667380
Alternatively, you can stop being a little bitch and get out there. Don't complain that we celebrate and circlejerk our finds when we get our asses up early Saturday morning and get out there and find them while you spend your weekend doing whatever the fuck. It's the price you have to pay. Yeah, it's fucked up that games like Earthbound cost what they do, even though it's not even that rare of a game. Speculators drive up the price of games to make a quick buck then fuck over everyone else; it happens in just about any industry where there's collectors(I made a small fortune speculating on Magic: The Gathering cards).

Not to mention, where I live, my area was affected by Hurricane Sandy, and a lot of people had to throw out things that got destroyed; there's entire townships that I don't even bother visiting on my weekends because of it. Doesn't mean I give up, though.

So, yeah, collectors suck, resellers suck, speculators suck. But you know what? It feels that much better when you do find a game you've wanted, kinda like the same feeling you got when your parents got you Ocarina of Time for Christmas.

>being a little bitch
Yes, because its not like I've been doing this for more than a span of days or weeks. It is not worth it, that is a personal cost/time ratio.
>That feel when you find a great game you really wanted
At this point, there's seldom a game that would cause this feeling, and it is not worth the trip. Yes, I'm sure it feels great winning that lotto, as any. I'm sure it would be nice to come across stadium events for $1 and other golden eggs. But opting not to waste $50 in gas this month to find that sweet game worth $20 going for $3 with a torn sticker doesn't sound like a good investment. Earthbound is common, and I wouldn't mind finding another successful hunt, but I've spent too much time and effort searching for diamonds in the rough. I'll pass.

idk about everyone else but i just plain enjoy the hunt. Just cause I come home empty handed doesn't mean I wasted my time. I was doing something I enjoy. Does it suck to come back with nothing? Sure. But it feels that much better when you get a good deal.

>> No.667503

>>667486
Don't get me wrong, for people who -have- success with hunts, I envy you. It is just not cost effective where I live. I've done more than a few dozen flea markets (and visited each more than a few dozen times), retro game stores+yard sales+craigslist, etc. I would say at best there's been two "decent" deals for every thirty trips. Again, it simply doesn't pan out, especially now that most of my collection is where I want it to be atm with few exceptions.

Where the hell do you even live that makes it a "cost/time" issue?

I live in the most suburban area possible, but all I have to do is circle my town, and that will let me pass about 7 thrift stores and 15 yardsales. And that's just a single town.

Do you live on the moon?

>> No.667510

Like I said, for those who have good hunts, enjoy the hunt itself, I have no problem with that concept. I have a -personal- problem when I only somewhat enjoy such and am really pining for that fair, decent, or "phenomenal" item and spend too much gas and time to come back empty handed. God speed if you still enjoy it even so.
