It's not the same. I want to be 11 years old again playing PSO in 2001. I can't have that again.

At least I'm honest about it. There's something pathological about any adult who posts over and over about games from 20, 25, 30 years ago, usually the same games from the same franchises. We're all sick, anon.

Is PSO worth trying now if you've never played it before?

if you've never played it before, you should play blue burst on ephinea. the console versions have less content and significantly less players, people just play them for nostalgia.

I kind of do too, but I accept that it was a special time, a very specific time with the perfect mix unique in that moment and I am just glad to have experienced it then. The music, the friends/people around, the environment/situation, etc. just cannot be replicated. I am glad my MMO journey began with PSO and RO, sure the mechanics are dated and all of which may be better now, but they were special beyond the game itself.

It was great but after revisiting the game some years ago and getting a toon to ~140ish I’m definitely done for good. The grinding was brutal, shared loot, mag leveling, section ID mechanic, and of course controls and item management wore on me. Probably no other game that I can vividly remember the awe I felt when I first played it, not even wow, shit was magical.

Just throw out all tech newer than 2001 from your house and go to goodwill to rebuy outdated electronics to fool yourself into thinking youre in 2001 again.
