The NES gets a lot of love because it was more or less the only real game in town for most of the 80's after the big video game crash of 1983

There were smaller consoles like Sega Master System or the Atari 5200 and 7800, but they were more or less unimportant meme consoles on par with the 3DO, 32X, or the Ouya.

The same reason why the NES had so many shovelware games and a few awesome gems in the midst was the same reason why there was so much shovelware on the PS1 and PS2 (and Wii to a lesser extent) and that's because it was the main console.

It was even more pronounced with the NES than with the PS1 and PS2 because the PS1/PS2 were the biggest game in town while the NES was the only game in town for the majority of Americans.

It's more or less a cornerstone of Early/Core Gen X nostalgia (and probably Late Boomer nostalgia too, desu)

There's no point in trying to prove your fan fave is the best ever or to shit on its competition for being horrible. They're done.
