Why does /vr/ hate physical collections so much? Owning old stuff is cool, I own like twelve early 70's desktop calculators just because I think they look neat and I like them on my shelf. I don't see the problem, it's not like every collection is Funko Pops.
I understand the benefits of emulation, but there's also something inherently enjoyable about having the original console displayed somewhere. A nice collection is like living in your own personal museum of things you like.
Pic isn't mine btw, just think it's impressive

>> No.6647575

Why not both?

>> No.6648098

It is cool.

Cool if you had that and took care of it over the years...

Now, if you suddenly went nostalgic and spent thousands of dollars on overpriced outdated stuff you once already gave up.... Then, that's just retarded.

there's this weird perception among /pol/tard tourists that if you're not living as a minimalist with nothing in your house other than a desktop to shitpost on you are LE EVIL CONSOOMER and you are literally no better than morons that blow their life savings on a house full of funko pops, personally i don't give a shit about what people view as enjoyable as long as it's not a ton of worthless plastic that's gonna get used purely as some cheap mass-produced display piece thrown in the landfill in a few years but that's moreso for the environmental effects than anything

very few things are worth collecting and decorating your house with.
collectors get made fun of when they collect stupid shit, and it reveals a lot about their personality and maturity, it's that simple, always been the case. But these days we have a lot of man-children with bad taste and dumb hobbies who think collecting XYZ gives them a quirky personality, like picking a new pronoun for their gender. i dont know that its bad, but it is more open to pointing out that its easier to group that with blatant opportunists, hipsters, and other such things.

i mean its your money, do what you want, but if your old enough to have lived through something's original iteration, and you are after basically a generation going back to consume it for any other reason beyond you were a poor broke shit back then, it just invokes a feeling of 'meh' to others.

But I can't see myself letting go of them, and with game prices going up currently for certain games, it's either I get it now or never. I genuinely don't see the point in collecting entire libraries of games. These people that have rooms with 8 shelves dedicated to every SNES/NES/N64 title, even the shitty throwaway ones just come off as hoarders to me. I like to have physical copies of games I remember fondly or really enjoy playing because sometimes it just feels like a more "authentic" experience to play it on the console. But adding artificial value to CIB games via grading and whatnot just feels like really expensive stamp collecting and it ruins the hobby of actual collecting. Boxed gen 1 pokemon games should not cost $200 each; they sold nearly 30 million copies combined.

Jumping pack to the NES purchase, I mostly bought it for Super Mario Bros 3 and the original LoZ, both of which I've never played through though I wish I had bought it at launch because damn 200 bucks is a lot and it might show up and be a fake ripoff, which im confident i can identify but then you have to deal with returns and shit, its just a nightmare. i keep telling myself another $1200 stimulus is coming which is whats paying for this, im recently debt free and have some savings so at least im not a TOTAL degenerate
