The video game theorist(s) on jewtube tell you she is small enough to actually contort to that size, at least in the snes retro era.

This era shows glowing as though it's flatspace technology. He debunks that. The back of the ship glows and all, ion pulses you'd figure that is what with how much electricity is involved in her alien tech. It's moving with ion thrusters and using magnetism it moves so she can contort herself.

After all that'd make the armor thicker to be shaped that way. She bombs herself a lot.

I never played the original Metroid when it was released but I imagine after one of your friends beat the game or it was revealed in Nintendo Power that Samus is a woman then everybody knows and it's not a big deal. Kind of like Luke Skywalker's father. I can't even imagine it being a big deal because I have known that since I was a kid.

It's a fucking video game. Trying to figure out how every possible thing functions scientifically in a fictional fantasy video game world is a sign of autism. It isn't real. It doesn't matter. Maybe if the fact that she can become a ball was a major plot point and they gave it an explanation that doesn't gel with another explanation they gave later, then it would be worth discussing. This is just "okay but what is the reason why clouds in the Mario world have eyes?"
