Is there a suitable alternative to Trinitron for good gaming CRT's? I am looking for a 20-27 inch that isn't 100 pounds + and literally no one gives a shit about anything other than trinitron.

Yeah, if you literally mean less than 100lbs, you’re going to have a difficult time finding something at that size and weight

>> No.6615734

There are plenty of good sets that aren't Sony. Trinitron is just the easiest to meme. Just check your local listings on different sites, look up the model number, and if it isn't a complete piece of shit there will be plenty of documentation on specs on the first page. Product weight among them.

hahahahahaha

Trinitrons are larger and heavier than any other comparable CRT. This fact alone makes any other brand a suitable alternative.

if you are worried about weight get a round front, those flat crts are easily 75% heavier than the round

Only ignorant idiots recommend nothing but trinitron. They're good but they're not ideal for gaming because they're razor sharp and have extremely thick black scanlines.
Get a shadow/slot mask, they are far superior in image quality.

Trinitron technology patent expired in 1996 anon, so any post-1996 CRT TV actually works the same as a Sony one. You can grab a samsung or philips past this date and it will look the same

I had a Sony Trinitron that was great, but I gave it away to my cousin who needed a TV. Dunno whatever happened to it.

JVC D-series are pretty nice. They tend to range anywhere from 450-600 TVL at 27"+ and can be found pretty cheap if not free here in the US. But consider also looking into Ikegami, Olympus(Sony rebrand) or NEC. They make professional monitors have professional monitors like Sony, but they don't tend to demand the prices Sony P/BVM tend to ask for.

>> No.6616762

what a bullshit opinion. all crts are great for retro gaming. it just depends on whether they are in good condition (little geometry issues and not too worn out internals).

Imagine not being able to lift 100lbs on your own my god. The problem with the newer commercially sold Trinitrons is the geometry gets fucked on nearly all of them.

That being said, I got extremely lucky last summer and found a 19" Zenith crt from the 1980s that outputs S-video. It's easily 50lbs, much lighter than the Trinitron I also own.
