I don't understand the hate behind this game

>> No.6611858

afaik the only person who hated it was Australia-kun, claiming that The New Generation was better because it was more family-friendly.
But whatever, Australia-kun is a schizo with bad opinions.
Everyone else think this game is pretty good, or at least doesn't guarantee any hate.

The sound effects on Bloodlines are atrocious, and sound much more muffled than the sfx on IV. The visual gimmick levels on Bloodlines are also more annoying and prevalent than the 1 or 2 mode-7 parts of IV.

And yeah, Bloodlines' last level with the retarded "screen-tearing" gimmick and anti-gravity gimmick are worse, very easy and uncreative level that rely on those visual gimmicks to be "interesting". In comparison, the rotating room on IV is merely an intermission on an otherwise normal level.

A dislike of FM synthesizer is purely a subjective thing. Personally I love the sound of the Sega Genesis and its FM synthesizer. Great soundtracks like the Sonic video games, Earthworm Jim (which is hands down better on genny than snes sound wise, primarily because it was designed with the genny in mind), Sub-Terrania, Toe Jam & Earl, Batman & Robin, and Bloodlines as well.

Too many boss/midboss fights? I don't even... that's dumb.

Washed-out colour palette... again subjective. The game isn't going to be as colourful as a SNES game because the Genny has fewer onscreen colours. But that doesn't mean it's washed out. It's not like there's a SNES equivalent to side by side with. NES has a smaller colour palette and I wouldn't call Kirby "washed out" either. I'd hardly call the attached image "washed out".

As for glitches. Yes, a few glitches exist. Most games, especially those released on old consoles, will have some bugs in it. It's hard to release patches for them. I would hardly call any of the glitches in this game horrible though. Every castlevania game has various glitches, many of which are FAR worse than anything you can find in bloodlines.

I am planning to make my own Castlevania game, inspired by the classic horror hammer/universal movies. I am but one humble musicfag and my resources are limited. I have several options:
1. Making a simple Classicvania like Dracula's curse
2. Making a Rondo of Blood type game.
3. Making a Battle of Olympus game with castlevania aesthetic. (like the zelda 2 towns/fighting bits)
Main character might be a flail wielding crusader (short mace at first, will get upgrades)
I will start trying what I plan, I will end up doing what I can. The basic mechanics of weapons haven't been too hard.

I found Adventure harder than Chronicles, mainly due to its fucked up physics and the whip mechanics.
I actually quite liked Chronicles but yeah it's a tough fucking game, for some reason they put all the hardest levels in the middle part of the game.

I know the PS4 version has a new dub and translations. It also adds back in some familiars (assisting spirits) that were cut from the PSX English version, so this is probably the most complete version of the game that's out there. It comes with Rondo of Blood as well, so that's a bonus.

I see "Bloodlines is an overlooked gem" a lot more than I see any real hate for it. Imo its one of the lower tier classicvanias but thats a high bar. Its still a lot of fun.

Chronicles is brutal even on Arranged Mode, but its worth playing through, its a great game.
Fuck is it hard though, especially the doll area and the last stretch of the clock tower ending with the She-Wolf fight.

COTM's RNG mechanics are controversial. I think the enemy drop cards are more essential to the game than Aria of Sorrow, and I slogged through the Dragon, Carmilla, etc.. without anything more than what I got on my way exploring.

>> No.6626694

>>6626683
You aren’t meant to have all the cards unless you’re playing Magician Mode, which you unlock after beating the game once. CotM isn’t meant to be played as a collectathon. You’re supposed to make your way through the castle with whatever tools you find along the way. Sometimes you get better drops, other times you don’t. That’s what makes replaying it fun. CotM isn’t even that hard unless you’re a Metroidvania-only fag and never touched the classic titles.

>> No.6626834

>>6626694
Most of the cards I got were Mercury cards, and to my recollection most boss fights dragged on forever and ever. I cleared Classic games just fine, it's just that COTM's gameplay seemed very dependent on being lucky with card drops.

Thanks, I've been working on the animations recently. Only a few mechanics remain and I'll be all set for making levels. Making it wasn't so hard, actually. Getting it to work properly and without bugs... that's where the real nightmare begins. I wish I was better at spriting though. Something like Rondo seems beyond my league, so I'll settle for something simpler.

Honestly, this does annoy me a bit
>Castlevania 4 is just called Akumajou Dracula in Japan, like the first Castlevania game
>there was never an official game developed as Castlevania 4

Actually, Castlevania's naming scheme over there is fucked in general.
>the Christopher games are called "Dracula Legend"
>Bloodlines is "Vampire Killer", while Simon's Quest is "Dracula II: The Seal of the Curse"
>Aria of Sorrow is Castlevania, but goes back to being Akumajou Dracula
>Harmony of Dissonance is Castlevania

That's not even getting into how Christopher was apparently supposed to be Trevor/ Ralph C Belmont originally.

>> No.6632935

>>6632902
There was never a game officially titled Castlevania/Akumajou Dracula III either. CVIII's original title is Akumajou Densetsu.
The titling is really weird.
Akumajou Dracula
Dracula II
Akumajou Densetsu
Out of those 3, only 1 game has both the words "Akumajou" and "Dracula" together.
It doesn't annoy me though, but it's curious.

That actually makes sense .I might release something like that first, to prove I can get the basics right, then make my own thing and perhaps deviate slightly from the usual gameplay.

alright so a few days later i played the game. i've seen people everywhere say that it's supposed to be hard as all fuck, almost at cv3's level, but it was easy (and i made sure the rom wasn't hacked to let you take less damage than intended)
am i just too good or is everyone else just shit at videogames

i can see why the werewolf would be considered hard (the stage isn't so bad imo), it's mostly a test of patience
the doppelganger though i feel is kinda cheesable
