I got the disc for Silent Hill for $7 at Gamestop a couple years into the PS2's life and I fell in love with it. Probably played it through 20 times. I'd really like it complete with a case and manual. Probably be my next buy so I can cross that off. Could sell one of the discs and make some money too it seems.

I decline to mention the games I want, I feel like mentioning interesting uncommon games online is a way to drive their price from expensive to hard to justify on a single game.

A couple recent examples: Samurai Western on the PS2, which I bought the first copy I've seen in person and Soul Star on Sega CD, which I had shipped from a Vancouver area store as it is the only copy I've ever seen of that game as well.

Scored it CIB for $35 a little over three years ago from a RG group on facebook along with CIB Breath of Fire IV for the same price or $30. For the longest time, I always only looked for/took deals like that because I have a knack for finding them, but times they's a changin'. It's inevitable that I'll have to shell out at least over $200 for a decent CIB of Valkyrie Profile during or even after The Rona Times. It's next to impossible that there's some crazy garage sale/flea market deal or some empty-headed used media store clerk that doesn't know what they're pricing, these days. Those were good times.

Not a "grail" exactly, but this goes for around $600 plus from what I can tell. Original seal. Got lucky and saw this at a HPB where they often misprice things (for better or for worse). Sucks about the sticker, but it doesn't really devalue it much if at all. I only got it because I knew it would be a good bargaining chip at cons/eBay. I picked up a loose cart just to play the game for like $2 lol.

I honestly don't know what advice to give you these days, brother. I think the golden era of retro collecting is past its prime and we're headed into the dark ages. No one gave a shit about old games pre-2010 outside of a few titles that were known rares/of special interest. Even with those, though, it wasn't unthinkable that you'd find a good deal on one somewhere or from someone who didn't know what they had. Now? Fucking forget about it. Deals are still out there, but you can't expect them. Gotta come with serious cash if want a serious stash.

Not proper holy grails, but a few years ago I got a nice steal on OfferUp; guy was selling a whole box of Saturn stuff for $100. I bought it cause it had all the awesome first party Saturn controllers (analog pad, fightpad, flight-sim pad, racing wheel, and light gun) but the games in the listing's pics were all shovelware or common games (Virtua Cop, Daytona, etc.) So I wasn't expecting much in that regard

Turns out it had CIB copies of Marvel Super Heroes and Resident Evil in it. I was pretty fuckin stoked desu

I would trade any non-WD RPG in my collection for a WD RPG I don't have yet.

God I never knew my gaming hobby was so intricate. I just like the software. But now I know it's a legit hobby and there's a reason why some collect, buy, and sell.

Xenosaga 1 is weird because all official versions of the game are censored for different regions. For example, the NA version has less takes out the pedo stuff with Momo but in the same scene has tons of blood and a decapitated head which is taken out in the JP version while the Momo stuff is left in

Consider yourself lucky that your grails are things you can typically just swing by ebay on any given day or maybe every month or so and grab if you have the money, not shit that is expensive AND shows up for sale once a year IF you're lucky.
I'm such a loser that I still deeply regret some items that I foolishly didn't buy 5+ years ago, not because I would have to pay more for them now (I would), but more so because I haven't even seen them for sale again since, and possibly never will.
