It really is sad they dropped this so hard. I could imagine if it had a few more years of software, it could have been a lot better. It's kind of a turd, but back then the few games were pretty neat, though not worth the cost considering how few games there were.

Having a 3dfx GPU would have made porting PC games easier due to the commonality of Glide API, but it lacked power compared to the PowerVR offering.
Then again, given that the DC was killed before it could showcase any of the typical titles consoles tend to get later in a gen, the raw power difference is kind of a moot point.

It was more powerful than the Dreamcast and PS2, the problem was that it's tiny discs couldn't hold much so they had to make compromises, games like RE4 looks much better on the Gamecube than the PS2.

Gamecube has no eithernet, no modem, no flash drive, no hard drive, no online play, no dvd playing, etc. It's just a powerful gaming machine, with the most fun games no less of all the competitors.

Before you think it's a baby's console, it's most sold game was gta, and it also had all the residen evil games.

Probably, there were other open world games on the console, like True Crime and The Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction.
Main issue seems to be that Rockstar didn't really want to publish for the console, since Smuggler's Run did poorly on the console.
