Damn, what a game. Now that I'm done with the original Metroid trilogy I want to have a Metroid thread. Which game is your favorite and why? Are there any other /vr/ games like it aside from SoTN?

Good game, nice atmosphere, music is good by videogame standards, develops the gameplay from previous versions. Kinda relies on nintendo power a bit though, not the most intuitive game, like what the fuck, hidden shit everywhere (not as bad as m2: ros) that needs to be 'discovered' to progress. At least it had a map.

Looks really good, but the jumping is shit, but metroid jumping is shit anyway.

I know. Its not as bad most definitely. But you will fucking stall. I remember playing it a few years after release (nintendo power wasnt really a thing in UK. It was there, in the same way the NES was. On the fringes.) And as amazing as it was back then it felt like a fucking demo. As in, this is a taste, you will have to buy to unlock more. Shame really.

SM teeters unconvincingly between rewarding player for studious and tricksy gameplay and downright 'buy-the-guide'.

My favorite is Fusion but I played Super for the first time a couple of years ago and it's pretty much tied as my favorite now.

I can overlook the linearity in Fusion. The two reasons I give Fusion the edge are SA-X and the fact that movement just feels better in Fusion.

I feel like Fusion goes underappreciated for just how well it justifies its linear and more episodic format. Having scripted events that change parts of the overworld and make you use your new ability where you previously didn't have to was really, really cool. Also some of the most challenging-but-fair bosses in the series.
