for snes, this one!!
But it's region locked. So if you have a PAL console you need to replace the controller ports with SFC ports.
Hands down the tightest D-Pad.
The SFC modem controller is almost as good as this one, but not quite.

List of flawless dpads based on my personal experience:

NES controller
SNES controller
Saturn JPN controller
PS2 Dualshock
PS3 Dualshock

If you want to emulate just get a PS3 or PS4 Dualshock. These small companies like 8bitdo don't know what they're doing.

I playfighting games, tony hawk games, and shmups, I have tried every fucking controller there is and nothing has ever come close to beating playstation DPAD.
DS4 is the best currently, DS1 and DS3 tied for second, DS2 kind of sucks due to the pressure sensitivity causing slight lag in the input latency, but I would take it over any non PS controller.

This is strictly dpad, but their analog is great too. 8bitdo would be perfect if their analog stick deadzones weren;t so shitty and disgustingly cheap

that'st just the way it is and don't believe anything else

So that's why my "officially licensed by SEGA" Genesis controllers have such shitty d-pads?
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07P255V8J/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Also why is it so fucking hard to find the original 6-button Genesis controllers? You know, the ones that were actually sold by Sega in the 90s? Almost every listing on both eBay and Amazon is for Retro-Shit or some chinkoid knockoff.

Yes and something to cover up the edges of the contacts on the d-pad sensors. Tape, those binder ring sticker things ("donuts"), the goal being reduction of sensitivity around the edges of the sensors.

this is my favorite controller on any system, and my go-to when emulating. face buttons are kind of shitty though- there's a lot of travel before they actuate, and you can actually push them down past the point that they "click" without registering a key press unless you push that last little bit. They're not inaccurate, but it can make certain games feel like there's a delay on jumping when there isn't. I've gotten into the habit of keeping buttons held 90% down, so I can rapid press them with barely any movement.

Serious question, why would a wireless controller necessarily have worse input lag than a wired controller? Bluetooth operates via radio waves which should surely propagate more quickly towards the console than electrons in a cable, but I guess it depends on the input/output devices receiving and sending the signal too. Are there any papers on this?

>> No.6607703

>>66075539
The implementation of the controller and the driver optimization matters more than physics sadly.
Note that I'm just talking about the ps4 controller being faster wireless than wired.
The fastest controller will always be wired.

That is interesting, thanks. Especially interesting is how 8bitdo claims their Bluetooth dongles have 'no lag' but they perform substantially worse in this test, sometimes even with their own controllers. I use a SN30 Pro + myself on a rpi3b+ and although I haven't noticed much I've only really used it for RPGs so far.
