The Sega Saturn is just a really interesting console to me. Bizarre hardware that was archaic to program for, loved mainly by nips, and most of the really good games are completely exclusive. Even the idea that, in an era dominated by 3D games, a console was built with 2D in mind is really ineresting. I have no nostalgia for the thing, given that I grew up with a PSX, but it's fun to play and collect for just because of how alien it seems.

I had a saturn growing up, for me the Saturn was just an arcade machine. Short burst fun games. There were a few RPGs and stuff, but really it was a couch multiplayer system (for me growing up anyway). The controller was better for fighting games, and it was mostly for short burst gaming.

Why is it so popular now? Obviously e-clout and resellers trying to drive the price up on old stock.

Personally I really like the Saturn because it's what got me to start importing games from Japan. Someday I just want to get a big cheap jp saturn game lot and go through all of it with my friends because a lot of the shit on there was weird stuff and occasionally they just made fucking porn for the thing. It just scratches that itch for off-the-wall shit that nobody's heard of that I have. Seriously, there's nothing like picking up some weird foreign game you've never heard of and going in with a friend trying to make sense of it all.
