Are any of these games playable without knowing japanese?

Spoiler alert: they're bad visual novels, not really games.

this. over half of these aren't even "games". fucking hate lists like this that give the impression as if these are worth playing even though you essentially need to be somewhat fluent in order to even understand the context of the story and scenarios. i swear they are just picked because the cover art looks cool

ontop of that, word of the wise for people that try to seek out "japanese hidden gems", most of the good shit from japan got ported and translated years ago. there is a reason why shitty generic rpgs like belapareth didn't come out here in north america

here OP, have a good and fun game with plenty of replay value

No they are literally ALL visual novels or text heavy adventure games. The Syndrome series is good though.

For an adventure game that was actually translated, you can try Juggernaut. It's not gangbusters but it can be moody, though somewhat a poor-man's Torico/Lunacy.

either I'm retarded or I'm not seeing Iru on that list
also what's that one 2D horror game that doesn't play nice with emulators?

>Aconcagua and Mizzurna Falls
>bad

I wouldn't say they're "bad" but they certainly can't be discussed here because no one has actually played/read them

Is there any good horror from before 5th gen?

>> No.6581619

MOST of the good shit dumbass. of course games like aconcagua and mermanoid are incredible for what they are, but they were left behind in japan because westerners wouldn't care for those types of games. aconcagua kinda doesnt count for that since it was planned to be brought over to south america

Don't bother with retro games if you don't even know Japanese.

Dear Japan,
Maybe it's just me and the rest of the world, but girls with long hair draped over their faces in dim lighting is not scary.

It's what you see before she has sex with you traditionally. Half of them are literally virgins so it makes sense.

>Dragon's lair
Castlevania is more horror than that

>> No.6584913

If youre an american just play Koudelka or Galarians for your literally who horror games

>> No.6586220

Castlevania is action as hell. High energy music and side scrolling. Dragon's Lair is instant death and creepy music, you have to jerkily creep around.

Also, I came back to the thread to remind people that, even though this was going to be a joke, Resident Evil Gaiden was made for the Gameboy Color. Obviously for many reasons that doesn't count, but I felt like 'reminding'.
