Carnival sucks because it's riddled with on-rails mindless segments and awkward, convoluted level design. People give Sonic CD shit for having "messy" level design, Sonic CD's levels are all masterpieces compared to carnival.
The mini boss also sucks badly.

Can't say I had any problems with that. The stage shows you (before THAT ONE part) on multiple occasions what the drums do.

I don't see how it shows you. There are drums before that part, but if people had trouble figuring them out when required to, what makes you think they'd figure them out when they're unnecessary?

False. Carnival Night has many ocasions where you can skip large parts of the levels. In fact you can finish act 1 in less than a minute if you know what you're doing.

When being able to skip parts of the level is a positive, you figure it's not a fun level.

I just finished a playthrough of Zelda 2 and holy fuck is enemy blocking just a pointless mechanic. It would be pretty fun to fight these in theory but in reality they just make them instantly block most of your attacks anyway. Like there's no way you're going to perfectly hit a darknut each time without being blocked through skill, it's just luck. They might as well have just done away with the blocking and given these enemies random amounts of health, the gameplay would be pretty much the same.

>> No.6564783

>>6564765
You're supposed to block their attacks and then immediately counter attack, it works every time. Did you actually beat the game? I'm baffled if you were able to get that far without knowing this.

This level is brutal and was the filter of many kids but let's be honest, Virgin disney games in general had shitty level design and controls, and the main attraction was the graphics and music.

>>6564874
It would be extremely straight forward if there wasn't a red herring that *actually works*. You can jump up and down and time it just right to get past it, but doing so takes ages. It's not unreasonable to think that you just need to git gud at timing the jumps, and not even realise that you're supposed to press up and down instead.

If the barrel didn't rock up and down when you jump on it, presenting a fake solution that actually can work but will probably get you a time over trying to get it right, nobody would have ever gotten stuck on it.

Metroid would be a great game that still holds up today if it weren't for the fact that every time you died you start with 30 health and have to sit and shoot chump enemies for 5 minutes to get back to reasonable health. honestly a very good game held back by a really dumb and pointless choice

This is the worst thing about Sonic 2 in my opinion. There are a ridiculous amount of bugs involving Super Sonic. The worst one is if you jump after reaching the goalpost or opening the capsule and the game hangs forever, forcing a reset. There's also one in Wing Fortress, during the cutscene at the very end where Sonic runs to the end of the platform and looks at the Death Egg, if you're Super Sonic then he runs straight off the edge. They clearly didn't test Super Sonic at all.

I had such a bad experience trying to finish Sonic 2 with all the emeralds, as a result of all the glitched deaths and game freezes, that I hate Sonic 2 now, even though I love 1 and 3&K (and like CD).

I knew others must've gotten stuck there too. Earlier in the level they showed the exact same objects either moving on their own or not being influenced by up & down buttons at all. So I always got stuck there for some time. I got around by jumping up and down in sequence to get the barrel just low enough to slip through. Still this took multiple minutes. I always wondered why they'd design it so that it'd take multiple minutes just at this part to get past up until I discovered that up & down movement and while performing that for the very 1st time, and still mentally facepalming, it killed me be going too far up, squishing me.

This is what I love about Super Sonic in Sonic 2: it's fucked up! They clearly didn't test it or know what they were doing and the results are hilarious.

It kind of reminds me of when they introduced 200cc in the Mario Kart 8 dlc. They were just like, 'we don't really know what's gonna happen here, we're just gonna sort of put this in and uh... enjoy!'

Introducing fucked-up game-breaking physics in special circumstances in a game is brilliant. I have fond memories of my sister activating Super Sonic and freaking out about how fast he was and how it actually made the game harder.

I will give you this: they should have made Super Sonic something you choose to activate more carefully, perhaps by jumping and pushing select, rather than the double jump thing which is easy to do accidentally, especially for a kid. You should be allowed to collect all the chaos emeralds without having to worry about Super Sonic bullshit and having all your rings drained against your will.

>> No.6569194

There's a good one that restores SRAM saves, adds a mini-map, addresses the energy issue, and also allows you to combine the wave and ice beams.
