Is this the best PS1 3d Platformer?. Played it for the first time recently and it has to be my favourite retro 3D platformer behind SM64 and Banjo. The game visually looks great, has solid platforming with good level design and a suprisingly good soundtrack. Even the mini games are good. They could create an entire game just on that skiing mini game. Played the second game right after hoping for more but it was just a step down in every way except the camera, still fun though.

I prefer the Crash games but it's a matter of preference, really. Ape Escape is just as good. While 2 is more of the same, 3 changes things around for the better and it even has a neat MGS based minigame.

Yes. Jumping Flash 1 & 2 are good too and shouldn't be missed.

It's one of the best platformer collect-a-thons on the system for sure. It's music is also absolutely top notch.

Best 3D platformer period. Unlike other games where you run around collecting coins or stars or whatever the fuck, in this one you are using hard to hunt down monkeys that possess a wide variety of behaviors. Still unsurpassed in innovation to this day and the gameplay holds up as well.

To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Ape Escape. The controls are extremely innovative, and without a solid grasp of theoretical physics most of the gadgets will go over a typical player's head. There's also Spike's red-pilled outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterisation- his personal philosophy draws heavily from racial sciences, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the racial metaphors, to realise that they're not just monkeys - they represent black people who have been unleashed by Jews and are "wilin' out." As a consequence people who are blue-pilled on race realism truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the humour in Spike's use of a net to send these animals back to Africa. I'm diamonds right now just imagining the ethnostate Spike is trying to restore.

And yes, by the way, i DO have Ape Escape tattoo next to the swastika on my left asscheek. And no, you cannot see it. It's for the ladies' eyes only- and even then they have to demonstrate that they're sufficiently trad and virgin beforehand. Nothin personnel, thot

>parents ask me if I've heard of this PlayStation thing and if I want it for Christmas or something; tell them I don't even know what it is and don't care
>Buddy of mine gets it instead, has me try it out even though I don't really care

it would have to have been out for at least 2 years by the time you tried that
while demos can come earlier than the game, ape escape was one of the first games to require the dualshock, which came out 2 years after the playstation (assuming the west)
you're telling me you were 16 and had not seen any ads for the playstation for the first 2 years of it's life?

I probably did but never paid attention to them. There were commercials for games Saturn, N64, etc. too but I wouldn't be able to tell you what games were being advertised for what system.
My household was pretty low-income and we were always late-adopters for anything and I grew to accept that. At that point I was just sour grapes that 3D games were becoming the norm and I couldn't play them so why give a fuck? Then it went on for so long I thought "maybe I'm just not a game after all" because I that was my dumb 16-year-old logic.

Even to this day I'll wait at least a year or two before buying a new console since that's just what I'm used to (that and my PC can already handle 90% of whatever I care about playing these days anyway).
