Sonic Adventure is flawed mostly for the reasons brought up ITT, but still there is some greatness to behold. Mario 64 was always a bland boring game overrated by cultists who can't let go of their plumber man and what it means to them, Nintendo fans are second only to Disney fans when it comes to clinging onto a brand because of what it means to their childhood.

You have to be more subtle, like at least say that some levels suck ass or something.
For me is Mario 64 like many already said the best part of SA are the Sonic stages, besides that the game throw some cool stuff but poorly made like the shooting part with Tails and the dumb ass casino.
Is SM64 perfect? no but is still way better than SA.

Mario 64 is what I'd call a flaccid experience. You can consider me a troll if you want, but it in no way makes me excited or pumped up to play it, it's just a sterile sad meaningless romp, seems like a tech demo almost to me. The only value I can imagine people getting from it is "comfiness"

>> No.6550912

i can agree with that anon
im gonna be honest
i never got into mario even as a kid. i never played any platformers
id go over to friends houses and they'd have mario 1 2 3 world or something and id play it but id just bounce right off every time. i just got bored and never was entranced with any mario games
I had an n64 too during its run and i never got mario 64 or mario kart which is what people seem to fawn over.

it wasnt until way later as an adult when someone shoved sonic 2 in my face that i had some fun with platforming. i still feel no desire to go and play mario.
i dunno. sonic adventure seems like a flawed but charming game. id probably go with that over mario 64. as a kid i 100% would've

is it really fair to compare them though? i mean wouldn't sunshine be more appropriate?

>> No.6550926

sonic adventure isn't shit because of what ecelebs tell you, it's shit because they abandoned the rich level design of sonic 2 and 3k for a linear easy game. sonic's levels are trash both in sa1 and 2. there is no "aging" it was always bad. meanwhile mario 64 is still one of the GOATs and is popular to this day despite not being multiplayer because of all the memes, hacks, seedruns and autism.

Mario 64, it looks goofy nowadays, but is pretty damn impressive for being a pioneer 3D platformer. The movement is awesome and the structure and progression are impressively open. With a few tweaks (better designed enemies and not booting you out of the level with every star) it would be a marvelous game. Sonic Adventure is not my cup of tea cause of the loose controls (not a fan of homing attack specifically, kills your momentum and at worst becomes a glorified qte), the padding and the hours of unskippable cutscenes that have unfortunately aged like milk. Other 3D games from that era like Spyro or Ape Escape are so much more fun nowadays, kind of a shame with how much money Sega must have poured into it, I'll always prefer 2D Sonic.

That being said you niggers sure love picking a side and playing hyperbole. I still appreciate SA for the OST and for how ambitious it was, and have had fun backseat playing it with friends. Omega's campaign and the comfy feel of Station Square are genuinely great and Amy a cute. I don't have to pretend like it's the worst shit ever just cause I have made my sworn life mission to antagonize people who disagree with me.

not really, tails puts a (tail) spin on those same stages, and knuckles could easily have his own open world game but instead the edgelord shadow did
amy's stages are serviceable, robo's levels are neat as well, but big is probably the biggest offender in the game since his fishing segments aren't all that fun
