The Saturn games fucking blow, no doubt on that one.

Physics are slightly different. Does add courses from the previous game but they look oddly sterile in the Wip3out style. There's also a drag racing mode which is pretty cool. But I also prefer XL/2097 over 3.

>It was always style over substance. F-Zero X is a far better game (although not nearly as cool).

My problem with the F-Zero 3D games is that you can turn 90 degrees with ease so it's way less about memorizingor reacting to the tracks. All the loops and turns don't really matter and thus the tracks feel in practice more flat than Wipeout tracks.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DTQeEzG0tSc

In Wipeout the turns matter way more and the tracks are much more narrow. You have to learn your turns and the track very well to do well.

>style over substance
The airbrake system is an excellent mechanic that the entire game is built around. What about the game lacks substance? I'm guessing you only played on the easier speed classes with FEISAR and then wrote it off.

>>6550828
Every track in XL/2097 is a masterpiece, the quality of the track design is consistently higher than 3 (although 3 has my two favorite tracks in the series, Hi-Fumi and Stanza inter) and while pretty rough around the edges the first one has some truly excellent tracks as well (Silverstream, Korodera, Arridos IV). Both also have top notch OSTs with 1's being entirely original and the aesthetics are great.

>>6550827
Stock car racing has advertisers and sponsors, and if putting real word sponsors on billboards on your fictional racetrack gets your game funded, then where's the issue? It doesn't take anyway. And in games like Jet Moto the teams literally being sponsored only made it seem like a legitimate motorsport.

You're looking back at the sponsorship with a modern viewpoint. Most people didn't know what RedBull was in 1997, they'd only just entered the UK market. RedBull and energy drinks in general were still niche and not really part of mass culture. Not like now where they give megabucks sponsorship to everyone from huge sports stars/teams to e-sports and Twitch streamers.
