famiclones are apparently still a thing, so are demakes. there's a market and industry for them, apparently...

and yet are there any bootleg homebrew 3D consoles? like a knockoff ps1, n64, dreamcast? why stop at famiclone? why not even super famiclone?

it's been how many years, and no bootleg 3D console for dirt poor people?

>> No.6547689

Because the methods of making these are so thoroughly documented in comparison to anything else,, you probably could've learned how to make one just by googling the answer to your own question.

>> No.6547691

Because emulation exists and runs on cheap ARM or MIPS chips

but just imagine if the chingchong manufacturers of gaming platforms figured out how to make a knockoff ps1. what a game-changer that would be. in the grander scheme of things.

I wonder if we'll get chink N64 clones since the HDL was leaked.

A $30 Chinese Android TV box can already emulate PS1 just fine. Go on youtube and search for EmuELEC. There's no reason for them to make a knockoff PS1. They already did without trying.

Modern famiclones are not realy clones, they're NOAC (NES on a chip), it's basically emulation of the real hardware.
Actual early 90s famiclones like pic related aren't that common anymore and there's collectors for them too.

this, the hardware was condensed down a chip that probably costs pennies to make, not many consoles could be made this cheaply
and why would you bother with the R&D needed to make a new chip when NoaC's still sell?
the chinese aren't known to be innovative, they'll keep selling the same thing forever if people keep buying them

I emulate on chinkshit. Seethe all you want about it. I also own raspberry pis, original consoles with flash carts, and cheap outdated machines that run Linux that I've acquired over the years. Got a problem with that? Good. I'll acquire about 5 or 6 more for the price of one discarded Optiplex. Powering them all at once will take less electricity too.

sorry, but yea, some little arm box with linux has replaced the whole "get a core2 box for $50" idea
they're smaller, quieter, cheaper, and more power efficient, probably slower as well, but still good enough for a lot of simple uses
of course i'd still recommend a core2 box for an actual poorfag desktop though, since they are more powerful, and much more expansion options

>> No.6547960

>>6547947
I'm just saying that the core2 boxes have had and will have much more longevity than an ARM box that will be abandoned in a year. The only real exception is the raspi but they are still underpowered, just not as badly as the older versions

i get where you're coming from, but at the same time, we're not talking about replacing a desktop, where the needs will change over time
i still use a raspberry pi 1b as a media center, because the requirements haven't changed, it can play 1080p video as well as it did when i got it

If you want to do that go back to confluence and turn off as much of the fancy ui stuff as you can. I did that on my pi 2 so I could use it strictly as an internet radio. I have it plugged into a cheap boom box with a better quality USB sound card to work around the pi's awful audio. I control it with the kore app on android. The $30 Chinese boxes handle it so much better. What makes the Pi special is all the projects you can do with it and the community around it. There are better single board computers. There are better devices to act as media centers with support for hardware decoding more formats. They also have community maintained projects for them. It's better to find some other job for a crappy old Pi to do and replace it with something else that does a much better job of playing media.

Hi. I'm emulating on my PC like you wanted me to. BlastEm has a dogshit UI. An insect landed my keyboard and I tried to get him and ended up triggering this and I don't know how to get out of it. Great experience. This is how games were meant to be enjoyed.

Oh no wait I got out of it and I was in a spot where I would die since I lost control of the game. Excellent! There's no reason why I would rather have a dedicated device without a keyboard and all these wacky buttons that trigger weird shit for autistic data miners to jack off to.

quite often various components are just being emulated, rather than being a 1:1 logic gate clone

while a clone is technically a form of emulation, it goes a step further than the requirements of emulation, so you wouldn't normally call it emulation, not because it isn't emulation, but because it's more than just emulation, it's more specific
