Is there a way to play MW3 on modern Windows?

Aside from MechWarrior obviously Heavy Gear.
Then G-Nome, Earthsiege and Starsiege.
There was also Crazy Ivan, but I don't recall it being that great.
Metal Warriors for SNES is fantastic and the arcade Armored Warriors is cool too.

Last time I tried it ran just fine without much tinkering. The latest dgvoodoo even makes it work in widescreen.

Really? Unpatched from the original CDs? Under Windows 10? I thought the game physics were broken on anything beyond Windows XP.

I believe you need to install the last official patch but that's it.
Yes, they say there is an issue with the physics when it goes over a certain amount of FPS but honestly I don't recall encountering it. Worst case you just have to set a maximum FPS from the video card control panel.

Controls are probably considered clunky by todays standards, but it's a great squad based shooter with a few tactical touches and some varied missions.

Infamous for costing Looking Glass Studios too much in development because of the FMV stuff. Interesting engine for the time with (comparatively)huge view distance for the time. Also some funky IK-driven animation system for all the power suits. It also has a dynamic music system. It's also one of the first 3D games on PC I remember to do water reflections.

I played a ton of mechwarrior 2 when I was a kid. I was so bad at it though, I could never get past the first few missions of either faction.

I had fun using glitches to load up a mech with 12 PPCs then linking them and firing them all at once
Instant maxed out heat, had to let it cool completely before you could fire another shot without exploding so you had to make sure your shot hit but if it did nothing survived

>>6540663
Yeah I never really messed with the customization too much, just would use whatever the game gives you. Idk if the game was mercilessly hard or I was just a kid who was bad at video games.

Unrelated, I really loved the voice of the computer in MW2. It's a shame none of the other mechwarrior games used it.

Gundam Side Story 0079: Rise from the Ashes for the Dreamcast is a fantastic mecha game and the best Gundam one.

>> No.6543645

MW1-3 : Walking tank simulator with high configurability.

MW4-now : Generic shooter with robot theme, and minimal Fisher Price configuration so that children won't feel dumb.

>> No.6543657

>>6543645
Yeah, MW4 never fascinated me like 2 and 3 did.

>> No.6543849

>>6543645
I liked MW4's hardpoint-style equipment loadout more than 3's weight-base. Unfortunately, combat/movement was notably worse compared to 3.

>> No.6544434

>>6543849
Nothing creative could be done with 4's mechlab. By stripping it down for children and casuals, they removed half the potential game.
