My buddy tried to retrobrite my SNES and it wasn't sunny enough outside. He came across these instructions to cook the case at a certain temperature but I guess it cooked a little too much and the case was destroyed. For a couple months I just had the guts of the SNES collecting dust in a plastic bag. Yesterday I thought maybe I could just put the SNES inside my Toshiba 20" TV. Turned out better than I thought it would. Just used a Dremel and screws I had laying around in the garage.

Could actually be cool if you RGB modded the TV and wired the SNES up to it. Like a poor man's version of this.

Not him, but I do remember reading about the oven method when I was researching ways to do retrobrite without a UV lamp or a good place in the sun to put the system. IIRC, you're supposed to do it at VERY low temperatures over a few hours.

Ever feel the top of a CRT monitor that has been sitting on for a while? Notice the side vents on the TV in OP's picture? Now where did OP mount his SNES hardware? Think about how hot SNES's normally get while running, and put the two together.

Nothing in the SNES gets particularly warm except the voltage regulator. As long as that still has a reasonable heat sink attached to it, it should be fine. I'm more annoyed by OP's shoddy workmanship, especially around the controller ports.

Wanted to use S-Video but had issues with the cable so I hooked it up via composite. Not ideal but looks pretty good. Those 2005 sets have amazing comb filters with very minimal interference and I don't mind some analogue feel to it.

When grey plastic yellows, it's usually not just surface stains (unless it was in a house with people who smoked). Basically, older plastic compounds had an issue where UV light would cause the plastic to become unstable as time goes on, so eventually the bromine (an orange-ish chemical) would separate from the plastic compound enough to be visible. Hydrogen peroxide has the ability to re-bond the bromine and eliminate the yellow completely, but it requires direct UV light for the chemical process to take place. However, the process does (supposedly) also trigger to a lesser extent under heat, hence the oven. Granted, people usually either use a heat lamp or a just a desk heater when they want to resort to the heat method.

Nah. What's really surprising is that someone read a document they didn't understand, said wrong things, and people accepted it as fact and parroted. jk. That's not surprising at all. Shit happens all day every day. In the US the switch to digital is being done in phases and the deadline for the last analog TV broadcasts for the last category of transmitter is July 13, 2021.

>> No.6540347

Off topic but I really miss analog TV. Something about still being able to receive full 480i 60hz video with audible sound in even the worst signal conditions with the color coming in and out is something you'll never get with digital. My CRT TV happens to have a dual mode digital/analog tuner so I'm still able to get broadcasts on it but in the end it's still ATSC so something as much as turning on a light causes everything to pause for a few seconds instead of a few lines blinking in.

I live in the Philippines and analog NTSC TV is still going strong. CRTs everywhere too. My household is fully upgraded with HDTV from satellite but few others have that. NorCal. Can't even get good FM DX so TV is a massive longshot. Best I've pulled off is NHK from Japan on shortwave.

>> No.6540414

>>6540393
Shortwave is easy mode. FM is a bitch if you're in a crowded market. Where I live now it's the opposite problem. Only two FM stations able to be reliably received and poor line of sight due to mountains and shit surrounding me. If I go stand out in a field I can get some distant stations but no miracles. I'm originally from Michigan and FM signals do some weird things because of the lakes. There's a lot of info about that here: http://www.beaglebass.com/dx/dx_article.htm When I used to live on Maui and got a chance to mess around with a car stereo I also found it very easy to pick up stations from the other islands. Could've been good conditions or just the fact the dial isn't crowded.

Also just came across a Nintendo Power cartridge with Genjuu Ryodan on it.

>Getting a hold of Genjuu Ryodan for your collection can be extremely difficult and expensive since it’s only present on SF Memory cartridges which actually downloaded the game back in the day. There is no fan translation available up to this date, but the language barrier of the game is fortunately pretty low.
