Been trying to use google translate but only the tutorials make sense like the bouncer lookin guy who tells you how the bank works. Everything else either sounds weird or takes too long to translate into something sensible that I forget what they even said.

not that anon but I've finished RL years ago, game is pretty straightforward and I don't know a inch of Japanese. now, if you want to understand the story to know wtf is going on you'll need a guide or know some runes

for the entire game? no, for the instructions? yes. If you must read you can try using the google translate app. If it's having trouble reading some of the text I find flashing a light on the screen makes it easier for the app to read it. You can also use screen shots from the game to translate.

I hate bumper cams in racing games since it's so damn close to the ground. I want that first person viewpoint as seen there. Wish more retro games had them.

I tried playing Tokyo Highway Battle yesterday but I hit a wall. For whatever reason when I would change cars, any and all parts I bought were erased. Tried my disc in 2 different systems too so I'm guessing its either intentional or my disc is just fucked.
Soundtrack is great though https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CAUymB-T38E

Tokyo Extreme Racer.

with Need for Speed 2 coming up behind. Loved driving the Hollywood(?) track in reverse and catching massive air on one of the jumps.

Honorable mentions: Carmageddon.

The Screamer series was fantastic. It was the first time that I saw moving "reflections" on the glass of the cars outside of Daytona USA in the arcade.
Screamer Rally is probably the best.

Personally I'd rather boot up GT 1-4 than the PS3 ones (haven't played Sport) because the increase in simulation quality isn't worth as much to me as not having to deal with the later games' cumbersome menus.

NASCAR Rumble (PS1) is the original
Rumble Racing (PS2) is a remake with the licensing stripped

gt6 has ok menus. the only offputting factor of the ps3 games is the inconsistent frame rate. Sport is great imo, it feels the best to play out of all the gts and the online etiquette is generally very respectable.

Running High, cus who says racing games needed cars? You're a dude in a powersuit which can boost and drift round corners (as best you can, using the walls helps) by groundsliding. There's light combat elements but you mostly want to do your hurdle attack and leap over racers infront of you. Something about footraces in powered mech suits is badass , and there's a nice sense of speed.

When I was a kid me and a friend would play a game called S.C.A.R.S. on the n64, we thought it was a million times better than mario kart. I forgot what it was like though, I should give it another try.

The first NFS is fucking hardcore, I swear any race is as demanding as those drivers' license tests in gran turismo. I got really into it a while ago, trying to carefully figure out the curves and the exact moment you gotta brake and exactly which speed you need to be going before each turn, it's fun.

That's minor compared to the post-PS1 games' severe lack of sense of speed. GT1+2 are much more fun to play
