Very interesting.
I really like the effect it has on some of the gradients. That said, I am also quite fond of the non-dithered pixels.

it's accurate. this is why i keep telling fuckers to use CRT screens. people that have only played emulators and never seen real hardware are unaware of the techniques that graphics artists and programmers came up with that relied on how CRT worked. they wouldn't have known about them either. sonic is a great example.

vertical dither is always disgusting unless it's used to simulate an animated waterfall or something similar

1. it does have gamma adjustment

>it does have gamma adjustment
Not enough
>consumer crts distort colors as well
So you're emulating the shit from CRTs that's pointless.
>dithering will always be obvious for as long as you want your image to be crisp
So you're content with emulating shit like wrong colors but not the things from composite signals developers actually relied to make their games look how they wanted.

It's funny how fags who try to emulate CRTs always focus on the shit that doesn't really matter (scan-lines, phosphorus glow, etc) but they eschew things that old game visuals actually relied on (color distortion in composite signals)

you don't seem to know what you're talking about
that shader offers plenty of gamma adjustment headroom

>So you're content with emulating shit like wrong colors
there's no wrong or right when it comes to artistic representation, it all comes down to personal judgement

All the "amazing dithering effects" seem to effect mostly crap games, Earthworm Jim isn't that great and neither is Vectorman.

The only decent game that "suffers" is Twinkle Tale,

>why is it pointless?
Because scanlines and shit wasn't used as a means to get some representation of visuals. Color distortion to mask dithering however, was.

question based on a false premise

CRT shaders seem to be a contentious topic for some people. How come?

>> No.6530863

>>6530574
>fake memelines without gamma adjustment causing the image to darken
That's something you fix by cranking up your screen's brightness, which isn't too bad since a properly calibrated screen probably isn't much higher than 40% brightness, so you've got plenty of wiggle room. You really can't do it at a software level without washing out the image, but you can definitely get that nice glow with hardware brightness.
