Never had a genesis growing up. Other than your typical sonics and shit, what do you guys recommend? top 10? top 3? idc, just hook me up with some names and I'll scope them out. Thanks in advance!

Also, Sega Genesis Thread, lets talk about this thing.

I'm in the same page as you. Just received a beautiful japanese model 1. First games I will play will be Earthworm Jim, Castlevania: Bloodlines, Thunder Force IV and Sonic 3

>> No.6509364

Congrats on your get, post a pic? Definitely got my eye on that castlevania game. I've never played a castlevania before. Also, I've always heard that the genesis version of Earthworm Jim was superior, but I've only played the snes version.

Of course, Sonic 3&Knuckles and Thunder Force IV
Also can you play Sega CD games?
If so Sonic CD, Final Fight CD, Shining Force CD and Robo Aleste are a must.
As for 32x the only games I'd recommend are Knuckles Chaotix, Space Harrier, After Burner and Virtua Fighter

Thunder Force III (overlooked because of IV, but equally as good imo with less slowdown)
Mercs (Great port of the Arcade, plus an original mode)
Atomic Runner (Superior to the Arcade Version)
Hellfire (Superior to the Arcade version).
Hang-On (Much better port than Outrun plus original mode).
Blockout (Great puzzle game that no one ever talks about)
Flicky (Looks crap, sounds crap, plays amazing)
Mamono Hunter Yōko (Great but overlooked action platformer).
Kujakuō 2 (Japanese version of Spellcaster 2)
Elemental Master.

I just fixed a 1988 VA0 Mega Drive. It looks like it suffered a poor soldering job from the factory and never really worked right till I touched up all the fucked up solder joints. Around the Video socket and the headphone circuitry. I like the system. It's got some heavy banding you notice every now and then. Might try and fix that. I just ordered a matching Mega CD for it. Hopefully it gets here and still works.
I got some Mega Drive games. Zoom!, After Burner II, Whip Rush, Twin Hawk, Virtua Racing, and a few other that I can't remember their titles.
Really enjoying the MegaEverdrive on the console.

Monster World 3 and 4 are really, really good. If you've ever played Zelda 2 and wondered what if it would be like if the game play was good, those are excellent examples. The worlds are fun to travel, the music is great, dungeons are engaging and there's a lot of little touches that make the game feel like they're full of love, like in MW4 when you hold your pet pepelogoo, you can move around normally as you would on foot, but as he grows and gets fatter, you struggle to move around with him. Nice little details that elevate the game. I recommend both of them.
