Hell no, but I wish it was more polished. Or that it was CotM. Actually, I really don’t care about SotN since Circle exists.

I think Bloodlines has a lot of things going for it. It has the best “feel” of all the Classicvanias. By that I mean both you and the enemies move relatively fast, and both characters have a good weight to them. It doesn’t feel like you’re jumping through molasses in Bloodlines. Sometimes the levels feel gimmicky, but I don’t think that’s a bad thing. I vividly remember every stage in Bloodlines. Can’t say the same about Dracula X. With X I feel Konami were simply trying to meet some Castlevania quota on the SNES and churned out one of the least remarkable experiences the series has to offer.

At least Richter had a semblance of depth to him, given he only came after Dracula when Annette was kidnapped.

Whenever I play a 16-bit Castlevania, I make it my duty to test the strength and robustness of the Castlevania series. To this end, I hold Castlevania duels. Taking two Castlevanias between my hands, I apply pressure, squeezing them together until one of them cracks and splinters. That is the “loser,” and I throw away the inferior one immediately. The winner gets to be played again. I have found that, in general, the cartridge based Castlevanias are tougher, and the CD ones are genetically inferior. I have hypothesized that CD based Castlevanias as a race cannot survive long in the intense theater of competition that is the modern retro gaming world. Occasionally I will get a mutation, a Castlevania that is sticky with soda, or covered with rental store stickers, or more dirty than the rest. Almost invariably this proves to be a weakness, but on very rare occasions it gives the Castlevania extra strength. In this way, the species continues to adapt to its environment. When I reach the end of the pack, I am left with one Castlevania, the strongest of the herd. Since it would make no sense to throw this one away too, I pack it neatly in an box and send it to Konami, along with a 3×5 card reading, “Please use this copy of Castlevania for breeding purposes.” This week they wrote back to thank me, and sent me a coupon for Death Stranding. I consider this “grant money” to experiment with modern console games. I have set aside the weekend for a grand tournament. From a field of hundreds, we will discover the True Champion. There can be only one.

I was led to a different place, /r/CastlevaniaGames, and that wasn't much better because everything there was a crosspost about the same fucking Igavanias and exactly like you said-- Rondo, IV, and Bloodlines.

Bloodlines, because (1) it's not an inferior port of an already existing game, (2) it's actually fun, (3) it also expanded the lore of the series by making the Dracula novel part of the CV universe, (4) there's a playable character who wields a badass spear, and one of the first games in the series that doesnt have a direct Belmont descendant for a main character.
