>in GameStop today
>clerk is talking to this woman
>he goes into full Grandpa Simpson mode "Oh yeah I'm like 37 so I was playing video games in the beginning. I had an Atari and then a Nintendo and all that. Man, I don't understand why they have to make controllers so complicated nowadays." (points to Xbox 360 controller) "I can't figure this shit out. It's like freakin' rocket science. One joystick and one button is all you need."

Lesson learned, /vr/. Extreme nostalgiafagging is unhealthy for children and small animals.

This has more buttons than the 360 controller

I don't totally agree with him, but I can see his point. Growing up in an age where simplicity was key would definitely have an impact on me. Back then games were easy to learn, but hard as fuck to master.

Personally, one of my all time favorite games is Dig Dug, and it doesn't get a whole lot simpler than that.

Eh, in all fairness game controllers have made no innovation in years except the Wii wand. The Xbox 360 controller is exactly like Sony's almost 20 year old design except they swapped the D-pad and left analog stick.

I say OPs story never happened, and he's twelve.

My brother is 37 and worked programmed 14 commercial games (not indie bullshit) and is far from being confused by a controller. 37 is hardly an old man (unless you're a professional athlete). Lots of porn actresses and boxers who could beat the living shit out of you and everyone you know at once are 40. Fuck, you can't even get elected president until you're 37 and most of them have been over 50.

That is, unless you are 12 and have a child's perspective on time, where a year is a fucking major era.

I wondered that myself. You realize that Black Cocks wasn't made by 12 yos. No, it was made by grown men who probably first started gaming in the 80s or early 90s.

IMO, it's like the Bronze Age of comic books which was the first era in which they were written by comic fans rather than artists like Jack Kirby who were just trying to make a living.

I was raised on PC games where you have 103 buttons (two mouse and 101 keyboard). 6-7 buttons is wowitsfuckingnothing.

I know some 23 year olds who look at a modern, non-Wiimote controllers and immediately reel, and I know some 50 year olds who play with them just fine.

Generalizations in either direction can go wrong.

COD was made by guys who's older brother wouldn't let them play with the Genesis as a kid, so they grew up hating video games and wanting to ruin them for everyone.

They need the extra buttons for 2 reasons:

1. To reassure the CODscum that they are actually playing a game. It's like a placebo, kind of like how some traffic light and elevator buttons don't do shit, they are just there so commuters think they have some influence on the world around them.

2. To justify multiple bright colors on the device. The colors are needed to keep the CODscum's attention from drifting too quickly.
